just bit of context. the modern world is a side story. not part of LOTM Book 1. written by cuttlefish himself. it depicts a nonsensical modern time with all the same character names. wth the key difference being klein being pushed to demoness pathway. in reality, this is a peek of LOTM Book 2 thats coming in 2022. It depicts klein's bizarre dreamscape as the previous LOTM attempts to corrupt klein's self recognition by luring him to become a demoness in his dream. the people who got off a train at the end, are the protagonists of LOTM Book 2, who will be entering Klein's dream, at some point in the story.
