Review Detail of Sinfish in The Mech Touch

I originally enjoyed this novel quite a lot, leaving about a 4.4 rating. But by chapter 300 I felt the novel was more like a 3.8, and by chapter 360 I feel the novel is a 3.0 The story is split between mech design; how his mechs perform in combat; the MC running a mech business, the MC leveling up to become the ultimate designer/billionaire businessman/man of society, and the MC blindly running off into suicidal adventures every now and then. That's listed essentially in order of how well the author writes them. As the world expands, many glaring weaknesses arise. People are strangely interested in killing the MC, but he takes extremely poor precautions against danger and makes practically no attempt to discover the mysterious factions in the dark attempting to assassinate him. He survives essentially by plot armor, yet repeatedly dives back into danger with little protection despite ostensibly being a successful businessman with no interest in involving himself in violence. Worse, the novel originally puts itself out as a system novel, but as the novel goes on, it becomes evident the author has minimal interest in writing a system novel, and it becomes the worst kind of system novel; operating almost purely as plot device and deus ex machina rather than the MC cleverly using a unique advantage he's been given. People who hate harems will be pleased to discover that Ves Larkinson, young multi-millionaire, is not only uninterested in romance, but is completely asexual because he has essentially no interest in other human beings, with his closest companion being a pseudo-intelligent robot cat. He has no lovers, no business partners, and only the most superficial of friends. There are plenty of named acquaitances, relatives, and rivals to keep track of, but without exception, the MC brushes off any entangling feelings he might have so that they're no stronger than the concern you might feel for that kid you sat behind in 5th grade whose name you forget a decade ago. It is fortunate that the MC has the system, because it is frankly unimaginable that he could survive more than 2 months as a going concern with the business decisions he makes. Appallingly, the author tries to make you feel perfectly reasonable suggestions older and wiser businessmen than him make are immoral or beneath the MC. The author's grasp of running a business is pretty poor, which is problematic when you're writing a novel that is about 1/3rd about a mech corporation. Speaking of the system, it is obvious that the MC repeatedly make poor decisions in his "skill tree" and expenditures in his system. What's really irritating is that the MC as the author's voice makes terrible justifications for his decisions that essentially insist they're smart decisions, when they're so blatantly not. Perhaps due to his incredibly poor use of his cheat system, the author must make the MC go gallivanting off into the wilderness on adventures, whereupon he always profits tremendously for being stupid. Inexplicably, the novel's universe uses cultivation novel tropes where technological spread is essentially non-existent; while humanity rose to greatness by reverse engineering alien technology scattered across the galaxy, lower tier human civilization is completely incapable of reverse engineering higher tier human civilizations and nobody ever wants to make a profit by selling technology even though the galaxy is rife with independent corporations. Even if you teeth-grindingly can accept this, one of the basics of the novel is that secretly, cultivation legit exists, in that experts in mech design, mech combat, and presumably a wide range of other disciplines can have massive gains through basically concentrating real hard and feeling one with the Force, yet this has failed to become common knowledge throughout the galaxy. The MC accesses it through the secret method of thinking really hard about his artistic concepts, and thinking super hard when crafting his mechs by "hand" (actually through a computer interface using automated robots but whatever), all of which has real, quantitative effects on mech performance, yet somehow, society has never noticed this. Fundamentally, this is as ludicrous as nobody ever discovering you can achieve a higher free throw percentage by keeping your eyes open, as it's a basic feature of the universe. Anyway. Starts off good, gets worse. and worse. and worse. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I could stomach the cultivation tropes (begrudgingly), until the war/vandal arc then it turns too dull to not skip

I'm at the latest chapter and if you want to see something good watch the last 20 or so chapters. You'll miss a lot of the plot but it's spicy. Ves IS back from the planet arc. All that buildup paid off

Dude I'm also at the latest locked public chapter(?) but it's getting tiresome.. I just want him to create mechs, see it performs and how his business runs.. If I remember correctly the premise of the novel was how Ves got the system from his dad and use it to grow his company, level himself, find his father, and pay his debts. At least at the start that's how I remember the plot was. And now 1000 chapter in we only know that he pasy of his debt but got a new one because of the war, his father is in hiding his mother is sometype of ghost (?), and he has been stuck at the apprentice stage for more than 500 chapters I think. Also no new mechs for his company. (if I miss anything please add) They just started a new arc where he is picked to be a middleman in the upcoming peace talk with the vesians. And looking at the title of the latest chapter even in the next 20 chapters this arc won't end. This would probably be an arc that'll be at least 60-80 chapters long and base on the repetitive writing he do it could go for more. Also this is a rant and sorry if you realy read all of this lol

Chapter 300? I started skimming around 70 due to the second tournament in the first 100 chapters. I can’t imagine that it gets worse. A good concept absolutely destroyed by a mediocre author. Hard pass.

this novel has become so stupid and boring that from when he was drafted by the mech corps I literally skipped to chapter 1000. so much politics.........I just want a system novel. Is that so much to ask?? I went to the system tag because I can't stand politics and just want a light read. the business part of this novel is so.....how do I say this........a chore. and even skimming a chapter or two wont make you feel that you missed part of the plot. this novel takes filler chapters to a whole new level. worse than naruto -_-|||

I believe that if you want stupid op mc that blows the story outside of Wilder logical realm, this novel is not for you, as simple as that.

Kinda figured that a long time ago. I was hoping it would focus on themes for mech building yet so many things to get distracted at that I'm actually wondering why it's like one piece that it has so many story archs before the actual mech building. This story is not for me really cuz was hoping to read something light and brainless to pass the time yet this came with its not so light content with many heavy parts.

Thank you. I had my doubts when I saw 1400+ chapters. This review was helpful.

Like hell forget a chapter or 2 you can legit skip 20 in some places and the plot will be in the same place. Like in the ark he got drafted and then was fighting on a planet and then they were litterally fighting this one mech for like 50 chapters and every time it was almost dead the author would pull some shot out of his ass to keep it going. The fight itself was lame the character itself was cringe and just plain bad.

I know right? I expected this novel to be on the themes of mech building and flooding the market with his mechs. Didn't expect the author to make mc care more for politics and turning him into a ******** Patriot than follow his dreams that almost made the mc go bankrupt in the beginning of the novel and going into millions in debt.

The story for me has gone from a 4.3 down to a 3 during the Vandels Arc, until they go to the planet there mission is on and slowly back to a 4.5/5 from there on. Its a slowburn read for sure. not for kids or people with light hearts. its not a fantasy type story. abit dark, lots of wars, people die, others dont even blink when intire planets fall. The world building is ever preset but its built by the MC’s POV rather than the Author spoon feeding it to you. So basically we don’t know the things he doesn’t. Alotta reading between the lines, example (MC builds a mech, his client buys it, try’s to kill his sister. Fails but kills other family close to her. Then people try to kill the MC after) does the author have to explain like a chinese author who wants Ves dead. Does the MC need to monologue about his worry or try to puzzle out what we all already know. Didn’t he beef up by moving to a more secure workshop hiring a 2nd class security company, bringing in his family to beef up his own forces. Alotta the opinions of Sinfish are just that..his opinions. He doesn’t specify a lot of things so no point in asking what bad decisions the MC makes regarding his business acumen or his system choices. Which is actually not a system but 1 of the 5 scrolls of The 5 Scrolls Compact, Apparently the big two betrayed them stole 2 scrolls and the metal scroll that MC has was damaged. Gonna be pretty hard letting others close to you with the fact that you will be hunted down for your precious, let alone getting a side piece 😂 not sure why anyone would want to ruin this story with sex. Should read smut stories or look in the Romance tags 🤣. Hope your happy Sinfish the MC has a girlfriend now 😥 Her people think men are beneath them and that woman should be the rulers 😓 If it wasn’t for the Fiday Coalition they would have already expanded and enlightened all the Komodo system😭 The pilots basically have to train really hard, go out to battle and 99% of the time they breakthrough their limits in life or death situations. i think of it more as them bending reality to their will. MTA doesn’t waste time on the how becuase they cannot study what they can’t see or measure. While the CFA only care for big ships and big guns 💪 As for the how, ves didn’t just stumble and learn the ways of the force. He had a mentor to guide him starting after the first chapter. Definitely one of the best Stories i have read in my opinion 😝 But hard to recommend due to the Repititive world building during the Vandels Arc. Just skip paragraphs till you get past it. Hopefully one day a good editing happens so others dont feel like the Dragons of the Void have strapped them into a chair for some brainwashing.
