Hey, here's what happened. I went to reread my outline again haha! Tara's dad married Rebecca initially, for a reason we will get to see in later chapters. Rebecca had Mike and Tom, then he started seeing someone, (something will happen along the way that made him start seeing Celine!) had Tara with Celine, then sadly, she died while Tara was just a baby. He had wanted to marry Celine and divorce Rebecca, but Celine died so he raised Tara along with his boys! Rebecca hates Tara since then, made her boys hate her as well. But Tara has been hardworking and will do anything to make her family love her and see her for who she is. So her father isn't like Derek at all! Derek cheated on her with Melissa, then divorced her like a baby and now he wants her back and might probably treat Melissa wrong like he did with Tara! He doesn't know what he wants.
