hiatus, I am currently on my third semester and the schedule was quite hectic.
Well, Durable bones mean you're less likely to fracture them from impacts, like when throwing a punch. This allows you to hit harder than most people could. For example, imagine punching someone with a gauntlet wrapped with human skin. In this case, you don’t necessarily need exceptionally strong muscles to cause damage. This is mostly the case why you'd find both STR and DEF are the same for the MC. Had mc only had calluses, her DEF would rise. As for STR, her muscles. Her bones + pain null? Both. Of course her def would increase further if she were to actually train to make calluses and not use magic to take the easy way. But that is not the type of a character I am trying to make here.
After two years of medical school (I repeated a year), I learned there are no pain receptors (nociceptors) in the bone itself. The 'deadening' of the skin is actually due to the formation of "calluses". You can actually stimulate growth hormone and IGF-1 to promote osteogenesis, which is bone formation after injury. So, yes, bone conditioning is real—it's just that you can't do that with magic where you crack your bones without harming your internal organs. There are the right techniques for it.
I believe the pain stops when calluses form on your skin, not on your bones. However, small trauma to the bones can stimulate osteogenesis, which is the formation of new bone. I've looked through several medical journals on this because someone mentioned that bone conditioning helps reduce pain
