I wouldn't necessarily judge the story development as slow-paced, however I place great importance on detail and giving the reader an insight on the characters' personalities and daily lifestyle, which might result in some chapters with little progress to the story. If you do not like a bit of action and blood during battle this might also not be for you.

I didn't necessarily like the part where he reverse gripped his skinning knife. A reverse grip is something done VERY RARELY, when you have a 100% chance of hitting/killing your opponent. Seeing how careful Apollo is, I doubt he'd so something so dangerous as basically throwing away his safety.
