It’s his body that’s the problem here, as it’s simply too young and he simply needs to ‘break it in’ same how you break in a shoe, as such, he has very easy time using his Ki, but his body just simply doesn’t have the capacity to handle some of the more powerful techniques and skills; as such he needs to break his body in.
