Yet another interesting book ruined by antisemitism and conspiracism. The author spends a good deal of time engaging in world building only to revert the lazy conspiracies about Jews manipulating politics and the financial markets. Also, I'm not sure if it is MTL, but there are consistent issues with gender and other common translational challenges. If not for the antisemitism I'd continue to power through because the world building is well done.

The world background of this story is surprisingly rich in detail, which makes this crude antisemitism all the more disappointing. If not for that, I would recommend that people give this book a shot, even though I have serious criticisms regarding character development. The Crown Prince wants France to become the dominant power in Europe and is willing to kill (and let people kill each other) to ensure that it does. Beyond that, Enlightenment values, and some amount of naivete regarding women, he doesn't have much of a personality. In some ways, the details of his decision making process and world building can help make up for his lack of character development. Other characters are similarly one-dimensional. The translation of this book also seems to be MTL. The story is readable but some parts are painful.

The beginning of the book showed promise but I was disappointed with how it progressed. Not only are many cliches and tropes abused, but the MC doesn't get a particularly nuanced portrayal, nor is his PTSD treated as more than a convenient means of advancing the plot. There is also a strange obsession with Marxism and Jews involved in Marxism, despite the fact that they only formed a small % of the total Marxist and Bolshevik movement. The grammar and syntax are better than many other offerings on Webnovel, and the authors facility with English and technical details made their one-dimensional characters all the more disappointing.

The idea has a lot of potential, but is poorly executed. The author is hampered by poor English comprehension and grammar. I highly recommend using grammarly or even chatGPT to edit.
