Most of the residents of town had been killed off in the initial invasion, keep in mind, even if they had friends in the guard, the crew lost family, and during war or combat, you don't mess with those someone else cares about unless you seek a butt kicking or worse.

You have to keep in mind, even though the national guard is from the same area, most of their friends in the guard haven't spoken to the crew since high school, which in terms of time is anywhere from 2-9 years.

This story has plenty of passion, there is a fire behind every single emotion the character has, experiences, and goes through. The evolution of them as a person is amazing, and a great read for anyone.
