Yes, I really don't understand why he isn't telling the teachers. How can they teach him if they don't know where to start? Even if there are no other tamers, they'd know which creatures would have skills he can borrow, which would be useful in their own right (mounts, scouts, protectors, etc), or how the skills he does get can be best used. Knowledge is power, and the teachers have the knowledge.

Some places are named after the main industry, and schools are named after their town. Why are so many people freaking out over this? Have they never heard of the Canadian town "Uranium Mines"? Guess what the main industry was. There is also a town named Asbestos.
There are lithium mines around the world. I'm pretty sure someone has figured out how to prevent that. Maybe a specialized, big umbrella. Let's call it a "roof." Or try only digging out the mineral and leaving the rest of the stone protect the vein from the rain.
Yes, I agree. All these comments saying [town name + school named after town = child labor] makes me wonder after the sanity of the readers.
Why? If you attend a school in Millford, are you forced to work in a mill? Some places are named after the main industry, and schools are named after their location. There's no logical connection between that and child labour.
...? Perhaps it's a middle school in a town named Lithium Mines? Why does it somehow mean the students have to do the mining?
