This is the best possible answer. Not only is it the only weapon with obvious defensive and offensive capabilities, but you don't have to worry about dropping it in the middle of combat or it getting stolen that alone is enough for me to say that gauntlets are the best choice however even more specifically because this is DC and there are many many people with either armor or natural flesh that's just won't be cut through normal means and I'm sure he can just get blades that will cut through all of that but why bother when you can just do internal damage from the beginning
