So since when did the greek and/or persian build skyscrapers? The architecture of valyria (the main city) is fantasy. I mean there is nothing that comes close on earth. Where the Valyrian Freehold architecture is kinda Greek/Roman-style (with fantasy in the mix). The Valyrians/Valyrian-Nation were essentially Romens/Rom. The Rome parallel certainly is the most common comparison for Valyria brought up, if not among all IRL-Planetos ones.
If you look at the books it is possible. His (Cannibal) size is not considered bigger than that of Vhagar and Vermithor in the books. He is not that big, this is why he eats eggs, baby dragons to young dragons in the books. He never hunts the bigger dragons. The Cannibal may be bigger than Dreamfyr but we don't know if he is bigger than Silwerwing. The one thing we do know is that he is the largest and oldest of the three wild dragons(Cannibal, Grey Ghost, and Sheepstealer).

In the book it is made clear that he is not lying. Tyrion feels no dishonesty from his father. Tyrion really believes him and for his father Tysha wasn't even important enough to remember or care later on. The books strongly suggest that she is still alive.
