no my friend is a linguistics major and we have discussed this, these are shortened versions that were adapted to fit certain narratives in history. like this one in particular that pushed for people to specialize more and make society more cohesive and less individualized which has its pros and cons

no that's the original version, most sayings like this were shortened to fit a narrative. like the saying blood is thicker than water, it's originally blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. there are many others that had this happen to them over time
