World Purgatory

"What's this?"

The scene in front of me was too unfamiliar.

"What is this place?"

I was standing with my back facing a tall gate. The gate was metallic and huge. Even without seeing the entirety of it, I knew it was thick. I believed it was so thick that even if a truck crashed into it, there wouldn't be a dent on it. However, the gate actually had many dents.

The wall around it was tall and sturdy as well. It spanned long and gave me a feeling of desolation. It's like the wall had withstood time and trials. There were many people on top of the wall looking down at us.

Us?

Yes, that's right. Us.

I turned and saw many people by my sides. Whether it's on my left or my right, many were there. Based on the faces alone, I felt familiarity to some of them. For some reason, however, I couldn't put any names on them. The many others were simply strangers to me.

Each one of them were looking at me. I felt so many emotions mixed into those eyes. Fear, uncertainty, and hope were all there, but most dominant of them all was unyielding. Through their expressions and their gestures, they didn't look like strangers to me. How could it be?

"Are you ready?" one of them spoke out.

Ready?

"Is it time?" another one said it out loud to me.

Is it time to do what?

"We're ready!" the one directly on my side replied on my behalf. She showed a glowing hands that could brighten a dark room. This brought my attention to my own hand. Apparently, I was holding a glowing sword.

A glowing sword and glowing hands?

What the heck? What year was this? Why not guns?

Then I threw my sight around only to see that everybody else was either holding weapons on their hands or had some sort of illumination on their hands. They puffed up their chests and, on the top of their lungs, shouted.

"Attack!"

"ATTACK!"

Before anything made any sense at all, the people around me suddenly leapt into action. They ran forward. They were running toward our enemies.

Eh, wait a minute! Enemies?

Only at this time I suddenly realized that directly in front of us was a swarm of seemingly unending mass of our enemies. When I said swarm it was literally thousands upon thousands.

They were big and they looked unbelievably strong. Their bodies were massive and taller than us. They had rough looking skins and big bright eyes. They had jaws that looked so strong they probably could chew turtle shells. They were confident and full of vitality.

The enemies were not the only things I just saw. Other things now caught my attention as well. The landscape behind those enemies was like we were in ruinous city. Ruined buildings, broken skyscrapers, wreckage of roads, bricks and trees. Not only those on land, even the wind felt harsh and the cloud up in the sky looked dark and gloomy.

My body suddenly moved. A feeling surged inside of me. I couldn't stop it. It was overflowing and encompassing. It was hatred. I truly hated them.

I ran toward my enemies. Enemies that I met for the very first time. There was humming. It's like I felt some connection to the sword on my hand. I trusted the sword, it was a part of me. And then I swung the sword.

"Die!"

My sword met with my enemy.

My companions' weapons met with our enemies.

We fought with all our strength. We were strong but those enemies were stronger. We were butchered. I saw many of my companions fell one by one.

I felt fear. I felt sorrow. I felt wrath. "I WILL KILL YOU ALL!"

My sword twirled like a storm. The enemies met my sword with their weapons. We crashed many times. It was brutal and loud. I was without pity. I didn't even pity my own self, how could I take pity on my enemies?

"KILL!"

Fresh blood started pouring. The sight was a majestic and gory one at the same time. This feeling emerged again. It was torrential hatred toward our enemies. It was either they die or we die.

Severed arms and legs were flying in the air. Even heads and visceras were pulled away from the bodies, painting a cruel scene. The cries of battle and despair were in the air. Both the heroic feeling and frustration were mixing. They were so thick that I could even inhale them.

The air of despair filled my lungs. I was choking. I couldn't breath. I grasped for air. At this time, I felt drowned in hopelessness.

And then I woke up.

I opened my eyes, looking at the familiar old ceiling. The ceiling fan was still there and so was the lamp. The old picture of my family was on the wall. I then turned to the windows and the curtains. They were all there. Now, these things I recognized. This was my room.

I wiped the sweat off my face. What a weird dream. It was so vivid that I could still feel the fear and hopelessness. I shivered involuntarily.

I took my phone and saw that it was only 2 AM. Darn it, how should I return to sleep after such a dream?
