"XueYa…?"
XueYa's eyelids felt heavy. The thumping pain flared across the inner lining of his skull, making it unbearable to think - to stay conscious.
But the voice calling for him kept him awake, teetering over the edge of unconsciousness. The slender fingers brushing over his cheeks soothing as he struggled to breathe - his throat dry, as if burned. Chest quivered as he forced a ragged breath in before exhaling, feeling the tingling pain creeping along his spine, spreading out towards his fingertips and toes.
What happened? The last memory he had was his feet touching the solid wooden deck of the white ship. Whatever happened next… Why couldn't he recall any of it? Did he pass out right then?
A sudden blare of pain made him see white behind his eyelids, his stomach knotting up in nausea.
XueYa cringed as he painstakingly slowly cracked his eye open.
