Escaping The homeless Thugs

Jessica was walking down the street all alone...

'You know when you walk through a street there are some spots where street lights placed at very huge distances fail to spread their light. These blind spots make it so dark in between, hard for anyone to see.'

Jessica was walking through those blind spots too, one after another. The street felt unusually empty, making her feel nervous with each passing second. As she reached the middle of the street it felt like taps of a pair of shoes other than hers echoing around just behind her. Her heart started pounding hard in her chest, her palms are sweaty along with her forehead.

She was fast-paced but only to hear the tapping getting louder and faster. Her breath shortened, she had no escape now. She was now in the middle of the street having no idea about how she would reach the main road to get any help. The street was quiet, she was panting. But she didn't dare to look around.

'The serial killer is on the hunt today?' She thought.

'Am I...going to be his new victim?' She gulped at her own thoughts.

Pacing swiftly through the empty street, it felt uneasy in her stomach. Only one person could help her.

'Just some more steps.' She thought as she approached Hebrew's apartment.

She looked at the fourth floor and the lights were off. "Even though he isn't around, I might be safe if I just reach there."

The only person she could rely on is Flynn Hebrew and his house. It was just some steps away when she tried to sprint but someone held her waist, covered her mouth and dragged her into an alley just opposite to his house. She wailed loudly underneath the person's hand but it was all vain, her scream muffled. She clenched her eyes in fear. Not able to utter a single word.

She was being dragged into a dark alley with a dead-end. She could hear the breaths of the man holding her on her head, she could feel his cold hands on her mouth, holding it so tightly. She tried so hard to get rid of his grip but all attempts were wasted. As they hit the dead-end, the man held her against the wall. In the dark he uncovered her mouth and looked at her, his green eyes shining.

"Mr Herbrew." She whispered frowning in confusion.

"Shh!" He ordered.

In confusion, she tiptoed a bit to look at what's going on outside the alley and that was when she realised two men holding a gun and other weapons roaming in the street.

"They-" She tried to inform him but instead got her mouth covered again.

"Be quiet, Ms Lennon!" He whispered yelled and she looked back at him.

On that cold winter night, he was as scared as she was. He had those sweaty palms and sweaty forehead. His breath was unstable too and his eyes were not as arrogant as they used to be.

"You...are scared." She spoke out in a low voice from underneath his hand and gained his attention.

"You are so scared just like me?" She was surprised to see the most arrogant, confident and fearless Flynn Hebrew being scared by some homeless thugs outside.

He kept looking at her in a monotonous way, and she gradually got rid of his hand on her mouth.

She scoffed, making him frustrated. "I said shut your mouth!" He again yelled in a whisper and took her out of the alley.

Dragging her towards the bar just in front of his apartment, he kept his eyes like a spy on those thugs waiting outside his house. She, who was flustered right now, kept looking at his back.

As they entered the bar, he took out his handkerchief and wiped out his wet forehead.

"Let's stay here for a while." He took her inside and she followed him like an obedient child.

Following him, she saw how he hid his face with a scarf from the people and reached the bartender finally.

"Oh! Look at someone using a disguise." She whispered in his ear making him a glare.

"Stop it!" He exclaimed angrily.

She somehow rather being worried she found it funny how afraid he was right now.

"What would you like to have sir?" Asked the beautiful bartender.

"Just one hock please." They both ordered in unison.

She smiled and went away.

"I'm not here to drink with you!" He was frustrated.

"Oh, really? Then should I tell everyone it's you?" Jessica asked with a smile on her face.

"Well, lately I was thinking about what more damage you can do to me, Ms Lennon." He taunted.

"Damage? And may I ask what?" She turned towards him, frowning.

"Not here to chit chat with you." His gestures were completely relaxed now.

"You're the one who dragged me here." He was getting on her nerves.

"You're the one roaming around my house."

"Wait! What?" She started debating.

"Yea! Am I wrong Ms Lennon?!"  He raised one eyebrow as he adjusted his elbow on the table and slightly turned towards her.

"Well, not absolutely. Cause I came here because I read this!" She showed him the newspaper, taunting about the headline with a photograph of him under it.

"They already printed it? Woah! That's so fast.

"It's not here so that you can praise it. It has a damn photograph of you. You're being called the fake detective and you don't even bother to be furious about it. What kind of attitude is this?" She thumped the paper down.

"Well, Ms Lennon I'm really not in a mood to discuss my attitude with you. You, are totally just a stranger."

"Oh really, then why are you here?"

"To have a damn drink!" He yelled, gaining almost everyone's attention.

Jessica leaned in and whispered, "With that scarf covering your face?" She was frustrated.

"What? Oh! This?" He laughed out awkwardly.

His laughing made everyone get back to their own work and Hebrew took off his scarf to further drink his order as the bartender placed it in front of him and her.

"Now will you please answer me?" Jessica was restless.

Hebrew took a sip of his drink and she questioned,

"Why did you drag me here? Why are we here instead of your home?"

"Cause they'll probably beat you up if they see you going near my apartment with me behind!" He gritted his teeth.
