he continued desperately as the soldier shoved him into Lucifer's chamber.

Chapter 8

Samuel was sitting outside in the garden when the angel appeared next to him, looking slightly concerned and slightly afraid. His wings were folded close to his body, giving an almost eerie impression that he was hiding underneath them. Sam raised his eyebrows and gave him a curious stare.

"Hey… What's up? I didn't know you were coming back today. Did Lucifer send you?"

The angel shook his head, still avoiding eye contact.

"No, I… uh… I brought you something."

The angel held out an envelope, which he placed on Samuel's lap without looking up at him. Samuel opened the envelope and inside, there was a letter written by one of the Elders of the council. It read:

Dear Samuel,

Thank you for saving Elitiah. He is safe now. We believe it's your job to protect him from harm. If possible, please tell him this.

I am not sure how else to describe it, but I think he'll understand better than anyone, considering the situation. You saved him. He is grateful.

With respect,

Nemesis.

Samuel looked over at his companion questioningly.

"Uh… What's this?" he muttered quietly.

"That's the message they're giving you to take to Elitiah," answered the angel.

"Why should I give it to him if he is so grateful?" Sam retorted sarcastically, raising an eyebrow skeptically.

The angel didn't answer immediately and instead studied the ground, seemingly pondering his response. "Because…" he finally mumbled quietly, "because… he deserves it. Because he deserves… peace of mind."

Silence settled between them for a while. Finally, Sam sighed deeply, breaking it. "I don't understand… I thought they had already given up on him." he murmured quietly. "They didn't want to fight anymore. They never wanted to fight again."

"You must remember how much pain he's been through," commented the angel softly, still refusing to meet Sam's eyes. "This world isn't what we're used to… and we're all scared."

"Scared? Scared of what?"

"Of… everything." the angel replied weakly. "Afraid of our future, of the demons, of the dark... Of everything… And you've heard what happened with Elitiah... When they discovered that Lucifer had fallen…" he trailed off before finishing, "...they decided to execute him. It wouldn't be hard since he betrayed us and all."

"Execute him?! For what?!" Sam exclaimed in surprise.

"For defying orders, of course," said the angel calmly, finally meeting his gaze, causing a chill to run through Samuel's entire body as he saw the sadness within his dark grey orbs. "They had to do whatever it took to destroy Lucifer completely... To get rid of him for good. Because he was dangerous... Dangerous enough to threaten Heaven..."

Samuel stared at him, his expression pained as tears burned in the corners of his eyes. 'Lucifer couldn't die. Not now... Not now… not ever.' He thought furiously as he struggled against the overwhelming urge to scream at the top of his lungs. He knew the angels were trying their hardest to prevent war, but the thought of losing everyone they loved still hurt.

"How long has he been trapped underground?" The angel questioned, changing the subject. "Since the fall of Heaven, most likely." he added after a moment of silence. "He was sent to hell with no warning or explanation. The same thing is going to happen to Elitiah too, probably." he added as an aside. "And maybe some other angels too."

"So… we're doomed?" Sam looked up, staring deep into the angels face as he spoke.

"I don't know." The angel replied. "But I hope not."

A loud buzzing sound filled the air and all the angels stopped talking, listening carefully.
