Prologue

"Betas! line up," The main beta commanded and we hurried to comply. I took my spot in the second place beside Fluke, the first beta and An Alpha. Beside me, two arrogant Alphas, the third and forth betas whose names I still do not know, stood with their arms crossed in front of their chests, glaring at everything their eyes lands on. The fifth beta, who is also an actual beta named Matt, stood with his hands behind his back and his eyes staring straight ahead, kinda like an army officer.

The main beta, Beta Roy, an Alpha, paced in front of us, looking us in the eye one by one like one would a microorganism under a microscope. When he got to the fifth beta, he started back up again until he got to Fluke and then me and, well, you know how it works. When he passed me, he paused and walked over to me, giving me a once over.

"Why are you so covered up?" he asked with a raised brow, gesturing to my outfit which consisted of a black long sleeved turtleneck shirt and black pants with a pair of leather gloves on my hands and combat boots. I didn't respond simply because I don't know what the hell to say. He leaned into me and sniff at my neck.

"..and why do you have no scent?" I shrugged again and both the third and fourth beta snickered at my expense, laughing like they just heard the funniest joke ever. Beta Roy opened his mouth to say something but was distracted by someone who called his name and requested his attention.

He gave me one last look, dismissed us and walked in the direction of the voice. I sighed. Since I've been dismissed, I might as well head home now, right?

I was already done with training for the day so I'm not needed till later. I started the short ten minutes walk to my place, thinking to myself how lucky I was to have escaped. I didn't have an explanation so I would have stuttered and the third and forth betas would have laughed in my face again.

I decided to forget all about today's narrow escape and just enjoy the beautiful day. I'll think about it later.
