Elemental Affinity

"This energy is... vitality? Then this must be one of the supreme elements, Life!" the chief exclaimed as his eyes sparkled with excitement as he looked at Leon's figure.

'My goodness, to think that it's the life element. The future of this village is bright!' the chief thought to himself.

Leon looked a bit confused but didn't say anything and just looked at the Chief.

"Cough!.. There are four basic elements. Wind, Water, Earth, and Fire. Above them are the rarer advanced elements. Lightning, Ice, Metal, Light, and Darkness" the chief narrated.

He then turned his gaze towards Carla and said "Carla had the affinity for the advanced element of Ice".

Afterwards, he turned his gaze towards Leon and said "However, above the advanced elements are the supreme elements. These are Space, Time, Life, and Death".

"People who have affinity for these elements are either destined for greatness or to be mediocre" the chief said with a solemn voice.

Leon looked at the chief with fear in his eyes. Now that his Life affinity has been revealed, he had seen hope for himself that he'll be brave. But when he heard the words mediocre, the fear of being mediocre surfaced from his heart. He wanted to be anything but mediocre.

Suddenly, he felt a slap on his back. It doesn't particularly hurt but it sure made a loud sound. He turned around and saw Rick's smile directed towards him.

"Dude, you're still too young to think about those fears. We don't have any problems here so you have all the time in the world to be familiar with your newfound power" Rick said with a comforting tone.

Leon nodded and slapped his face with both his hands. When he opened his eyes, his eyes revealed a flash of determination.

"Thank you, Rick" Leon said as he looked at Rick without stuttering.

'Good kid' the chief inwardly praised as he looked at Rick's figure.

'I have to be careful with how I treat these kids. I can't let them lose confidence but I can't let their heads get bigger than their hearts either' the chief swore to himself.

"It's your turn, Rick" the chief said as he grabbed the crystal ball. He then gave it to Rick who stepped forward with a calm expression.

He touched the top of the ball while Rick held it with both his hands. The ball then shone brightly with green light. Shortly afterwards, it shone even brighter with white light.

'Wind and Ice, a good combination-... Huh? Another one?' the chief said as his eyes once again flashed with excitement.

He felt spatial fluctuations from within the crystal ball. He then let go of it and looked at Rick.

"I assume my elemental affinities are Wind and Ice?" Rick asked.

'Monstrous mana capacity, space affinity, and that calm gaze of his, a terrifying combination. If he becomes a villain, the world will be in for a period of suffering. Should I tell him?' the chief contemplated for a while before Rick interrupted him "Chief? Is there something wrong?"

"Cough!.. Excuse me. Your elemental affinities are indeed Wind and Ice. But aside from that, you have an additional affinity for space" the chief said as he looked at Rick with the corners of his eyes narrowed down.

The chief decided to inform him in the end. They just have to hammer him with good morals and discipline so he doesn't stray from his path.

'To think that this village would have two geniuses with affinities towards Life and Space. In addition, this girl isn't bad either' the chief thought to himself as he imagined the future possibilities of the village.

'Three elemental affinities? That must be something amazing then' Carla thought to herself.

"Space affinity? Does that allow me to teleport, create a spatial pocket to store objects, create spatial rifts, portals, and more, like the ones from the novels?" Rick asked as he looked at the chief.

"If you have sufficient understanding of space, yes indeed" the chief replied.

'This kid is knowledgeable and creative too. So this is what a monstrous genius is like' the chief inwardly commented.

"How strong are our affinities towards those elements?" Rick asked.

"Your affinity towards Wind is intermediate while ice is high. As for space, currently, we have no way to judge how strong your affinity is towards space. We can only determine if you have an affinity towards them or not" the chief replied.

"As for you, Leon. Your affinity towards fire is poor and as for your life affinity, the same for Rick, we currently don't have the means to determine them" the chief said as he turned his gaze towards Leon.

"Carla, you have a high affinity on both Water and Ice, quite balanced, I must say" the chief said with an approving nod as he looked at Carla's figure.

"Any more questions?" the chief asked as he looked at the three of them.

"None at the moment, chief" Rick said while Carla and Leon just shook their heads.

"Alright, the three of you are dismissed" the chief said as he turned around and walked away from the room. The three looked at each other for a while and chatted for a bit before they went to their homes.

At this moment, the chief met up with the parents of the three and informed them of their talents for magic.

"Remember, treat your child with care, don't spoil them too much but don't be too hard on them either. Don't hesitate to scold them and discipline them. The fate of this village rests on their hands" the chief said, to which the parents of those kids just nodded and walked away.

'It's almost time for the village to show itself back to the world. We've been secluded for too long already' the chief thought with a sigh as he looked up at the sky.

"I hope those kids don't disappoint the village" the chief muttered with a low voice as he turned around and walked away.
