Her anxious feet tapped rapidly against the wooden floor as she bit her fingernails too deep that it caused a few wounds.
She occasionally ran her hand through her ruffled curls and let out an audible, heavy sigh, indicating that this damsel was stressed out about something.
It's been a few days since Kiki and Nana brought the hypnotized old man to their humble abode.
Despite all their efforts in trying to awake the sleeping figure, the old man still snores his way through the night without even a hiccup.
Kiki has been stressed out about the man, she even asked the people around if they were looking for a missing old man but to no avail.
She found nothing.
She needed to find out who that young man was and in order to do that, the old man needs to wake up first.
Kiki doesn't know why but that young man that performed that black magic left a deep mark in her heart.
Every time she thinks of him, a raw pain passes through her veins and leaves her out of breath.
But what she isn't sure about if it is a good pain or a bad one.
There's something about him so dark and mysterious that he had been on Kiki's mind for the past days.
She took her eyes and lay them on the sleeping old man and that action seemed to be the hundredth time she did so.
If there is one thing she knows about the man, it was that he wasn't from North-East and he keeps mumbling incoherent words about goods and king that make her even more confused.
She wished there was a book in which all the answers to the questions she had in her head were stated, maybe then, life would be much easier.
She abruptly stood up when Nana stepped in with an old man in a doctor's jacket, holding a briefcase.
"Kiki, this is the village doctor," Nana said and Kiki nodded at the old man as a sign of acknowledgment.
The man stepped into the small room and went directly towards the sleeping figure on the old, creaked bed.
He opened his briefcase and began to examine the patient with furrowed, bushy grey eyebrows.
The room was in total silence as the doctor focused on the old man.
"Do you have enough money to charge the old man?" Nana leaned forward on her tiptoes and whispered to Kiki who was beside her, wearing an undetectable expression.
"I told you not to worry about the money" Kiki gritted as her eyes were still fixated on the doctor.
"How do you expect me not to worry? If you give him all you have, what will I use to feed for the rest of the month? I can't eat the salty food they serve here!" Nana whispered with urgency.
"Oh come on, Nana. You won't die if you eat a few spoons of salt for a week. I need to find out what's wrong with the old man. If it requires money, I will pay what he asks for" Kiki rolled her eyes at her Nana as usual.
"So you would rather your old mother die from salty foods just so to save the old man?! Kiki, you know nothing about the man, why have you been stressed out over something that has little or no concern to you?" Nana gritted out with irritation.
If anyone were to be annoyed with Kiki for the past days, it should be Nana.
Nana didn't understand nor even wanted to understand why her granddaughter was so obsessed with the old man and the reason he was in this state, to the point that she even skipped work a few times to take care of him.
"You of all people know why I can't abandon him in the streets. So, don't question me, Nana" Kiki turned and Nana saw the nostalgic, pain-filled look in her granddaughter's grey eyes and swallowed hard.
She used her wrinkled hand to rub Kiki's shoulder as a sign of comfort.
The doctor cleared his throat and they both turned to look at him at the same time.
"Have you found out what's wrong with him?" Kiki asked without beating around the bush.
"Yes, miss Reigan" the doctor paused and looked at the patient.
"Seeing as he has no external or internal injuries, my only guess is that he has been hypnotized"
"Hypnotized?" Kiki frowned.
"Yes, the act of making one fall into a deep spell by repeating words and swinging a pocket watch in front of him. If the victim successfully follows the watch, he falls into the spell" The doctor explained.
"Then why has he been asleep for the past days?"
Nana asked.
"It's due to his old age, the spell took a lot of his energy and he is just replenishing the lost strength, he will be up in a few" The doctor answered.
"Do you know who did this to him?" The doctor asked.
"No, I don't"
"This is not from North-East. Whoever did this to him must be from somewhere else because the act of hypnosis is barely known in the werewolf realm, it's more common with the vampires" the doctor said.
Kiki furrowed her brows in deep thought.
The case just got more complicated.
"Is there a way to undo the spell?" asked Kiki.
"Yes, there is. Do you want me to wake him up?"
Kiki and Nana looked at each other.
"Yes"
The doctor moved to the man's feet and used his finger to press the skin between his toes and he jolted up with shock.
The first thing the man did was to start laughing like a maniac and Kiki raised her eyebrows.
"You see, he's just a mad man" Nana wailed.
"I told you, Stupid girl! There's nothing wrong with the man except that he is mad!"
Kiki pursed her lips and kept on staring at the man who has begun jumping on the bed as he screamed.
The doctor used massive strength to pull the man down and Kiki rushed to help the doctor.
She used her arms to hold the man and his squirms didn't loosen her grip.
"Now, listen to me," the doctor said as he stared into the old man's eyes.
"Do you like candy?" the doctor asked.
The man enthusiastically nodded.
"If you do as I say, I'll give you all the candies you want"
The man nodded again and stopped squirming under Kiki's hold.
"Look into my eyes and don't move"
"You've been hypnotized, you're been hypnotized, find your way out and come back to your senses" the doctor repeated as he kept eye contact with the old man.
A few minutes passed and the man collapsed again.
Kiki looked up at the doctor with a question on her face.
"He's going to be fine. He just needs rest and he will surely get back to his senses. He's a weak old man, that's why he could easily be manipulated like that" The doctor said with a smile as he packed up his things into his briefcase.
"Thank you," Kiranzi said.
"It's my job"
"How much is your fee?"
"No, I don't accept any money from the people in the Care Center. I'm going to take my leave now, if there's any problem, let me know" the doctor said and left.
Kiki slumped on the nearest sofa with a sigh and wiped her face with her hands.
"Now, what do we do?" Nana asked as she sat beside Kiki.
"We wait"
