The Orphaned Queen

After being abandoned at the border of the Blue River Pack territory, Rain is raised in the orphanage as a witch, where she becomes best friends with Jessica Tompson, a werewolf orphan from the pack. After Jessicas seventeenth birthday, Jessica tells Rain they must escape the pack to save Rain from a horrible fate. But before they can leave, Odett, a five-year-old rogue pup, enters their lives, and they decide to take her with them to ensure she doesn't share the same fate as Rain. After they leave, they run into danger while in the woods as they try to make their way south to New Orleans in an effort to find a witch who will help train Rain to use her magic. But soon, they will discover The Moon Goddess has a plan for Rain and her newly found family. She is pulled from her miserable life and thrown onto a rollercoaster of ups and downs, finding her goddess-given mate, discovering her family's past, and even fighting a war to save all supernatural species. What will their fate entail? Will she find her happy ending?

Waiting Game

It's been two days since Rain got attacked, and she still shows no signs of waking up. The doctor keeps saying she will wake up when she's ready, but it makes me nervous. What if she doesn't want to wake up? What if she's decided to give up? I'm not sure I could handle that, knowing I'm the reason she got attacked. I need her to wake up. I need her to know how sorry I am for everything.

"Zion, sorry to disturb you, but the witch the coven sent is here," Sam says, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Show her in," I say as I sit up, checking her vitals on the monitor on the other side of her bed.

"My King, This is Lady Lana, Second Witch of the Sylver Nyx Coven," Sam says as he guides her to the couch. I walk over to her and shake her hand before sitting in the chair across from her.

"I was under the impression I would be meeting a new witch and assisting her with her magic training." She says, getting straight to the point.

"Her name is Rain, and she's lying in the bed right over there," I say as I point to my sleeping mate. When she gives me a questioning look, I decide to explain further. "Shortly after making the call to Lady Ezmeralda, she was attacked and hasn't woken up yet."

"Oh my, would you mind if I examined her?" She asked.

"Of course, I'm willing to try anything if you think it could help," I say, and she makes her way over to Rain's bed. Placing one hand on Rain's forehead and the other on her stomach, her hands begin to give off a glow. After a moment, she removes her hands, looking confused.

"I need to make a call. Please excuse me, King Zion." She says.

"A call to who exactly?" I ask, curious about what just happened.

"Her mother." Is all she says as she walks out of the room.

"But she's spent most of her life in that orphanage. She doesn't even know who her mother is. How does this woman know who her mother is?" Ryker asks, just as confused as I am.

"Lady Lana is probably mistaken," I answer him.

"I think we should bring Jessica and the pup in." He says, and I agree.

"Orian, I need you to bring Jessica and Odett to Rain's room, please." I link my beta. Within minutes they enter the room, and seconds later, Lady Lana walks in behind them.

"King Zion, who may these people be?" She asks.

"This is my Beta Orian, His mate Jessica, and the little pup is Odett," I say as she greets them one by one with a handshake till she gets to Odett, and she gasps.

"Is something wrong, Lady Lana?" I ask

"Two hybrids in one place, You are a lucky man, my King." She says, and I'm shocked.

"How did she know either are hybrids? And did she address you as her king?" Orian links me.

"I'm not sure how she knows. And yes, she did." I answer him.

"Two hybrids?" I ask her.

"Yes sir, the little one here is also a hybrid like Rain," she answers.

"Can you tell us what kind of hybrid she is?" Jessica asks Lady Lana.

"Can her parents not tell you?" She asks back. And I get the feeling she may not like Jessica.

"No, actually, I can't since she's an orphan." Jessica snaps at her, the room gets quiet for a moment, and Lady Lana seems to understand the situation more clearly now as her eyes soften while looking at Jessica.

"She's a vampire/wolf hybrid," She says before continuing. "Don't worry. The only blood lust she will have is when she shifts. But she will need about an ounce a week to keep her healthy and growing. It won't need to be fresh. Blood bags should suffice."

"Thank you," Orian says when he realizes Jessica is speechless.

"If the King permits her to remain in his kingdom, I can provide multiple bags until a blood bank can be set up." She says while looking at me. Why wouldn't I allow her to stay?

"That would be very helpful. Thank you." I say. "About that call, you made earlier. You said you were calling her mother?"

"Yes, She'll be here in a few hours. I'll let her explain when she arrives." She says, and I nod. The doctor walks in a moment later and notices everyone staring at Lady Lana.

"No changes, I see." He says, and we all shake my head. He walks over to Rain lying on her bed. He writes down her vitals, then checks to make sure she doesn't have a fever, then checks the wounds from her fight with the rogues. He then nods before looking at me and explaining her wounds have all healed nicely and that he'll be back later to check on her again.

After he leaves, we sit in silence for what feels like forever before Sam comes in and ask if we'll be eating in the dining room or Rain's room again. I'm thankful he broke the silence.

"I will be eating here, and they are free to choose for themselves," I say, and they all say the same.

While waiting for our food, I ask Lady Lana for the best way to feed Odett when she needs blood.

"I would recommend a little in every meal." She answers, and I thank her.
