Chapter Twenty One

Everyone was talking about the party last weekend when I arrived at school today. I've had many people say hi to me as I walk by, and I honestly didn't remember much from that night so I had no idea who these people were.

Saturday I woke up on top of Alex, his hand was wound in my hair. It had been ten in the morning when I woke up, Alex had been waiting for me to get up so we could leave to get breakfast.

I was hungover but it wasn't as bad as last time. We left to go to a dinner a few streets from our house.

I awkwardly smile as I make my way to class hoping I didn't do anything too stupid at that damned party. That was definitely the last party attended this school year.

The rest of the day follows suit with random people greeting me and asking me about beer pong. Apparently, I had won the game?

"Emma!" I hear my name being called from behind. I smile apologetically to the two girls who stopped me before and turn around to face the boy. "Please just listen to what I have to say before you run off."

"Just spit it out, Luke." I sigh, adjusting the strap of my bag on my shoulder.

"I, um. Can we please just start over?" He says after struggling to spit the words out. I shuffle back and forth on my feet contemplating what the hell is happening.

"I got to go." I say after a minute. I had no idea why he was bringing this up after months. I had no time for this.

"No, wait." He says walking next to me. Why can't he let this go?

I continue my normal path past Ashton's locker before lunch. We always met up here and today, I pray he helps me get Luke off my back. I know it may be selfish in a way, but I want to have him by my side when I tell him off.

Ashton smiles at me after he sees me but it soon fades when he sees Luke next to me. I try to give him a look to say that I didn't mean for this to happen.

Luke continues to beg for my forgiveness as I finally make it within a few feet of Ashton.

"As I told you months ago, I don't care." I say roughly, finally looking at Luke. "What you did was wrong and I can't just forget about it."

"I know you can't, but I still want to be friends." He says messing up his hair. I almost feel bad for him, but I know I can't. He played me.

"You heard her, just leave her alone. She wants nothing to do with you." Ashton says picking up on my dilemma. Luke looks to my side in surprise. I guess he didn't notice Ashton until now.

"This is between me and Emma." Luke's growls at Ashton making me even madder. He had no right to get mad at him.

"Why can't you just drop this." I raise my voice, stepping closer to Luke. I was sick of all this drama.

"Because I still like you!" I take one step back at his words. How can he like me after what he did? His cheeks turn a faint blush and he looks concerned about what he just blurted out.

"What?" "What!" Me and Ashton say at the same time. I turn to find him very mad at Luke's confession. Luke looks down for a second before he looks back at me.

"All I'm asking for is another chance." He says quietly looking like a child who lost their favorite crayon.

"I've think you've done enough already." Ashton says lowly, moving me being him.

"What? Are you her boyfriend now, Irwin?" Luke laughs in a daunting way.

"So what if I am, Hemmings." Ashton shoots right back, as confusion washes over me. Boyfriend? They can't be seriously fighting over me now?

"I'd love to see how long you'd two last." Luke taunts.

"Well unlike you, I don't go around kissing other girls so I'd say way longer than you would with her." Ashton taunts right back.

"Would you guys give it a rest? You're causing a scene." I push them apart after having enough of the bickering. People all around us watching this take place, and most likely thinking of the rumors about to start. "I'm not some prize to be fought over." I say in disbelief. They both look away looking ashamed in their actions and I cross my arms between them.

"Luke, I can't go back to the way things were before." I sigh, turning to him. He mumbles a fine and glares at Ashton before storming off.

I don't know what I did to attract all this attention. I never had guys give any interest in me before I moved here and now I have two fighting over me? I bring my hands to my face and let out a small groan.

"I'm sorry that got out of hand." Ashton says hugging me from behind after everyone disperses. I instantly calm in his arms and lean back, uncovering my face.

"It's not your fault." I say looking up. "Thank you for defending me."

"Anytime." He smiles spinning me around to face him. "Tell me if he starts bothering you again and I'll deal with him."

"Only if you promise to play nice." I smile up at him.

"Can't promise that."

"Oh c'mon, for me?" I pout, I didn't want him to get into a fight over something between Luke and me.

"Fine." He gives in, bringing me closer.

I decided against bringing up the whole boyfriend thing out of fear of where that will take us. I smile at the thought of being in a relationship with this boy, but I've never really thought I'd ever get that far with anyone this early.

I just hope Luke won't be around to crash my happiness anymore.
