Chapter 1Going To Meet The Devil.

~Katrina~

"Don't wear that ugly frown, girl," Lady Poria hissed, her cold eyes locking on me from across the carriage. "You need to smile, and keep smiling."

I nodded, trying to force a smile, but it faded just as quickly. How could I smile with all this pain inside me?

"You're not going to ruin this, are you?" Her voice dripped with disdain. Lady Poria, my stepmother and queen of Everia, had hated me from the moment I was brought before her. Trust was something she didn't have for me. "You should be grateful you were chosen instead."

The word "grateful" made me want to laugh—or cry. There was nothing fortunate about this. I wasn't walking into a new life—I was being led to my doom. But what choice did I have? If I survived even a day, it would be a miracle.

"Did you practice everything I told you, Katrina?" she grinned, her eyes gleaming with cruelty. "Or should I say... Queen Katrina?" Her laugh filled the carriage, mocking me. She knew what this was. I wasn't becoming a queen—I was walking into a trap.

"Yes, Your Highness," I mumbled, my hands trembling as I clutched my dress.

This wasn't how my life was supposed to go. I deserved better, didn't I?

After my mother's death, I was brought to the palace as the king's illegitimate daughter, and I'd been treated as a nobody ever since.

Lady Poria had her own daughter, Anna, and I was nothing compared to her. To the people, I was just the daughter of a whore.

"Remember," Lady Poria's eyes darkened, her voice low and threatening, "you must never tell anyone you're not Anna. If you do, I will make you suffer in ways you can't even imagine."

I swallowed hard, the cold fear settling deeper in my chest. "I won't fail you or my father, Your Highness," I said, my voice shaking. I knew she meant every word of her threat.

As we got closer to the Xylonia kingdom, Lady Poria's face grew more tense. She was nervous too, though she'd never admit it.

"The king won't know. He's never seen Anna, and he doesn't know you exist," she said, her voice betraying her anxiety.

King Karl of Xylonia. His name alone made my heart stop. The stories about him were terrifying—he was the most powerful ruler in the entire region, feared by all.

They said his victories were too extraordinary for a mere mortal, that he had to be using dark magic or something worse.

But there was no help. King Karl was the devil himself, living among men, striking terror in their hearts. Everyone obeyed him without question.

His name, whispered in fear, made people tremble. How did my father ever fall into debt with such a man?

Was he desperate, or did King Karl lure him in, offering just enough to hook him before taking everything?

That's how the devil works—He gives a little, but takes everything in return.

My father had borrowed from King Karl long ago, and now I was the price to pay off that debt.

It should have been Anna in this carriage. But Queen Lady Poria, in her cruel wisdom, decided I should go in her place. After all, no one cared if I survived. They just threw me to the fire without a second thought.

"We've arrived, Your Highness," the carriage driver announced, breaking my thoughts. He wasn't talking to me, but to Queen Lady Poria.

Lady Poria smiled wickedly. "My beautiful daughter, Katrina. Let's present you to the king and get this over with."

I had no words. As I stepped out of the carriage, tears stung my eyes, but I forced them back. There was no point in showing how scared I was.

The first thing I saw was the palace. Its beauty stunned me. The rumors hadn't captured its true grandeur. They said it was the largest palace, but they hadn't mentioned it was built with gold.

My heart sank. Could the rumors about King Karl being the devil be more true than I thought?

I glanced at Lady Poria. She was probably wishing it were Anna standing here, but the rumors about the king had made her choose me instead.

She had sent me to die so her precious daughter could stay safe.

"I wish the king were different," she muttered. "Anna would have loved it here." Her words stung, but I wasn't surprised. As always, Anna came first.

Servants greeted us, taking our belongings inside. Lady Poria, as usual, did all the talking, spinning her lies. I barely listened.

My mind was consumed with fear. Was this how my life would end?

His voice drops to a rumbling whisper. Now that he was close to me, the burning ache deep within started to throb and palpitate. His body tensed, and then he was on me, nose against my neck, inhaling deeply, one hand on the side of my hair, pinning me in place with his hips. My head tilts back, unable to stop myself from giving into his touch, exposing my neck more to him, his chest rumbling as he licks the side of my skin, kissing and nipping, placing his scent over me. [Sweet, satisfying, pampering, lots of face slapping.] Zhang Caishen's era had come to an end and he could never rise again, or so they said. But why did he seem to be getting richer and more powerful even if he was now crippled and abandoned by his betrothed? Why was he suddenly so unnaturally lucky? The answer was simple; his new wife!! Lin Alix was not lucky when it came to her family. She was the older, less loved and less talented one in comparison to her younger sister who stole everything from her. But fate intervened and she got lucky when it came to a husband, not only was he wealthy but he loved to spoil her. Suggested by her infinite luck gaming system, Alix married her sister's unwanted crippled husband to be and stepped on the path of a winner in life. She swept up music awards, gained international recognition and got her revenge on her cruel family while becoming Beijing's most envious wife. "Are you crazy, you willingly married a crippled man?" her friends asked. "Yes, but have you seen how much he pampers me?" she asked in turn. "She will cheat on him, he is a cripple and he can't perform his husbandly duties." others gossiped. Alix looked at the so called crippled man who climbed into her bed night after night and laughed. Sorry, he was more than capable. "Honey, I am here to perform my husbandly duties." he would always say coquettishly when he flipped her over. Royal Secret: I'm a Princess!

After living as a famous Korean vlogger-slash-mukbanger, Neoma died a (shameful) death and regressed to her tragic first life--- the life where she has to live as a hidden princess with a tyrannical father and a yandere twin brother. She died at the hands of her psycho brother in her first life. But luckily, she charmed her "big brother" this time. Her father remains a sc*mbag, though. But a blessing in disguise happened when her twin brother got "sick." Because of that, she has to pretend as the "Crown Prince," forcing her father to treat her well. She thought she was finally on the road to becoming a lady of leisure. But, despite her laziness, she still ends up completing royal duties that put her closer to the throne than her sick twin brother. The next thing she knew, they already prophesied her to be the first empress of their very patriarchal empire. Now Neoma finds herself in the middle of the succession war she never wanted to be involved in! *** [EXCERPT 1] “Neoma de Moonasterio, the first princess of Moonasterion Empire. From now on, you’ll live as Prince Nero’s proxy.” [The hell is this psycho saying?] Neoma, despite her confusion, still smiled at her father--- the emperor. “Father, what do you mean by that?” “From now on, assassins sent by my enemies would target Nero,” the emperor explained. “Until he’s strong enough to protect himself, you’ll pose as your twin brother.” Her smile froze, but she still acted innocent. “But Father. If I take my brother’s position, then wouldn’t the assassins mistake me for him and…” She stopped talking when she realized that was exactly what the emperor wanted her to do. [This sc*mbag wants me to be bait?!] “You’re no longer a princess, Neoma de Moonasterio. From now on, you’ll live as Prince Nero de Moonasterio,” Emperor Nikolai said coldly while looking down at her with glowing red eyes. “Try to survive until your twin brother comes back to take his rightful place, understood?” Neoma was too shocked to react. [Are you f*cking kidding me, you sc*mbag?!] *** [ORIGINAL BOOK COVER. Artwork by sola_cola.] *** [EXCERPT 2] “I’m so sick of your tyrannical a*s,” Neoma yelled at her father aka the emperor. “I won’t forgive you for hurting Lewis and Tteokbokki!” “What will you do about it then?” Nikolai asked with a smirk. “Kill me?” “Yes! I’ll f*cking kill you, sc*mbag!” “Language,” he warned her, upset that his five-year-old daughter curses like a sailor. “Using vulgar words is unbecoming of the future Crown Prince.” “I’m a princess!” Upon yelling those words, the royal princess’s eye color changed from ash-gray to red. [This is getting serious.] “Stop it, Nero,” Nikolai told her sternly. “If you keep that up, the royal knights will come and–” “I’m not Nero!” Neoma screeched angrily. Then she jumped in the air with her left fist, ready to punch him. “In the name of the moon, I’ll punish you!” [What…?] And Princess Neoma, pretending as the Crown Prince for her sick twin brother, punched Emperor Nikolai, her father, in the face.
