"See you later!" a black-haired young man named Michael left the milk tea after greeting his friends and made his way to the university across the street.

'Finally! Today is the day when I get my degree and apply to the highest paying company.' He rejoiced.

'I got another offer from the international company last week. They are ready to pay 40k₱ as my first monthly salary, then later promote me to the section chief. I Will be earning even more after the promotion.'

40K ₱ was enough to feed a whole family of 4 in 6 months.

Michael glanced around the street to make sure no vehicles were coming. The lights were red, so he began crossing the street.

'I should accept their offer. After all, they are the ones paying me the highest from all the companies.' Michael successfully crossed the street and entered the university gate.

'I don't want to sound like a jerk, but my top priority is to get the job that pays me the most. I have to take care of my family now. They have been sacrificing their happiness for me, so now it's my turn to fulfill all of their wishes.'

Michael glanced around the campus to look for his girlfriend, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"Weird. She said she is waiting for me at the gate." Michael moved his hand to his pocket to take out his phone, but he realized he had left it at the milk tea shop.

"Come on~" he groaned and made his way back to the milk tea shop.

Luckily, his friends were still there, so his phone was safe. He grabbed his phone and left the milk tea shop in a hurry.

"Phew!" he sighed and muttered, "All my important Infos is still on my phone. If I lose it, I might get into trouble."

Michael called his girlfriend on the phone and crossed the street without looking at the lights. His attention was on the university gate and the phone call.

"Hey, where are you? No, you are not at the gate. Oh! The other gate. Yeah, I will wait for you at the—"

Michael was hit by the truck passing at full speed.

His body was sent flying a few meters before hitting the floor. Lights faded from his vision as his lifeless body rolled on the street.

He opened his eyes to see that he was in a strange room. He could smell pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

"Where am I exactly?"It occurred to him.

He looked about and became aware that he was in the hospital room. He made an attempt to move, but he was immobile. He was paralyzed from every angle and was unable to speak or even move his fingers.

He remained thus way for a few minutes until his eyes were discovered to be open by the nurse who visited for his routine examination.

She hurried out of the room and gave the doctor a call right away. Shortly later, the physician arrived and examined Michael. But Michael fainted during the examination.

When he opened his eyes again, he noticed

He looked up to see his mother, his childhood best friend, and his girlfriend standing with the doctor.

When his lover saw Michael open his eyes, she started crying.

"I will ask you some questions. Try to reply to them if you can. If you have trouble speaking, you can simply blink and let us know. Are you ready?" the physician asked. "If you can listen to me, blink once."

Michael gave a single blink.

"Good." After reviewing the results, the physician enquired, "Do you know who you are?"

Michael blink once.

"What's your name? Is it Michel?".

Michael Blink twice denial.

"is it Bernini?"

Michael Blink twice Again in denial.

"Is it Michael?".

Michael Blink once in response.

"Good." The physician pointed his finger at Michael's Lover and said, " Do you know who she is?"

Michael Blink once.

"Is she your teacher?"

Michael blink twice.

"is she your friend? "

Michael again blink twice.

"Is she your Girlfriend? "

Michael blink once in response.

"Very good." The testing for anything wrong with newly wake up Michael although he cannot move he can still response with blinking his eyes.

The test continues as it ends, We can see that Michael Mother, Child hood best friend, and his girlfriend is standing facing the physician.

"How long will it take for him to recover? "

His Mother ask.

"Lets talk about that in my office."

The three followed the physician to the office.

The physician told them about Michael's injuries were incurable, and he will have to stay for the hospital for his entire life.

"Most of his bones are shattered. And his broken ribs punctured his lungs, and his neck also cracked on impact. It's a miracle that he is still alive, but after looking at his condition, I wonder if…" The doctor let out a sigh and continued, "I will be serious with you. He is beyond saving, and he can die anytime."

As Michael's best buddy signed the paperwork for his therapy, Michael's mother and girlfriend began to cry.

Even after days went by, they continued to see Michael. His best friend would visit him whenever he had free time, while his mother and girlfriend would come every day.

His friends from highschool also visited him once or twice, and his classmates from the university sent their regards.

Michael's lover also had also receiveed a job offer from the international company, but she was stalling as she couldn't leave Michael alone. He had promised her that they will get marry once they get their jobs, but either of them has expected this to happen.

Michael ended their relationship when he learned from his best buddy about his girlfriend's employment circumstances. He didn't want her to ruin her life overshadowing him.

Michael knew that his future with her was uncertain and that he might pass away at any time. He chose wisely and rationally to drive her away from him.

(I was litterly sobbing when I writing this part.)

After several weeks, people ultimately stopped coming to see Michael. His best friend would sometimes stop by. When Michael inquired about his family's well-being in his absence, he revealed that his younger sister had to leave school due to financial difficulties incurred in covering her tuition while they paid for his medical care. His younger sister was lending a hand in the store that his mother had opened. For Michael's medical care, Step his father had also taken out other loans.

Michael cried by himself at night, feeling the "helplessness". His goal was to provide a better life for his family, but he had now turned into a burden for them. He wept for hours on end and thought over his life decisions on many an evening.

Michael felt like the minutes went by in an eternity. He remembered everything, and his whole life flashed before his eyes. He felt regret for the way he had lived. But regardless of the decisions made, the result would remain the same.

After breathing his last, Michael has passed away.
