Chapter 39: If you kill him, I'll kill you!
Christian moves so quickly that I don't realize what he is doing until it is done. With a powerful thrust of his arm he sweeps General Hamilton out of his seat and throws him down into the arena. There is a perfect still silence as the General hits the ground. Then Christian stands tall.
"He was the first to fall, soldiers," he says loudly. "Put down your weapons unless you would kill your leader."
The bowmen falter as the visions fade into nothing. No one seems to know what to do next. The General is lying prone, Christian is holding the gaze of all his comrades and no one wants to be the first to act. I don't dare breathe for fear of what will happen. My hands are still so hot from the fire, almost glowing from the heat.
"Men," the General rasps, struggling to his feet. "Seize him!"
