"No horses in the town hall," the important voice continued.
I rounded on him, and gave him my best no arguments face. I could tell by the look of his clothing he was pretty high up in the towns hierarchy. I didn't really care who or what he was. I really didn't have time to discuss it all.
"You can fuck off for all I care," I scowled at him.
His two guards stepped forward sensing the threat I posed. Faith came up from the side stepping between us.
"That's enough," She stood her full height, "May I speak with you alone."
She looked past the guards to the man in charge. I watched her put on a sweet diplomatic smile. She was used to dealing with this type of man. Nobles, and royals. It made me that much more curious who she really was.
He looked her over slowly, and nodded. Faith closed the distance between them quickly, and gently directed him off to the side. Away from people. She spoke to him quietly for just a few seconds. That was all it took.
He nodded to her, and they came back together.
"The horse stays," he nodded for his guards to back off.
I relaxed, and let my hand drop from the hilt of my sword. I was glad that the sharpened senses had worn off, but at the same time I wanted to know who she really was. I would have liked to have overheard that conversation.
"Now that that's settled," Faith smiled at me pleasantly, "Stick close to me swordsman."
I did as I was told as villagers trickled into the main hall. Faith, and I stayed against one of the back walls away from most of the villagers. The town folk were none of our business anyways. I kept to myself mostly. Even next to Faith I was mostly on my own.
