chapter 6

I made my way home from school amid the congested streets as the sun started to drop over the metropolis. Even though the day had been lengthy, I couldn't stop thinking about the stranger who had recently saved me from some gang members. I still had the nagging suspicion that I knew him somehow.

I was deep in concentration when I abruptly ran into someone, bringing me back to the present. The individual glared at me and said, "Hey, watch where you're going!"

A female with long, dark hair and striking green eyes appeared when I looked up. She wore a fashionable, expensive-looking outfit and was around my age.

Although I knew she was one of the popular girls from school, I had never spoken to her before.

I muttered, "Sorry about that," as I manoeuvred by her to get on with my journey. She, however, stood still and blocked my way.

"What's the matter?" I questioned, a little annoyed.

She questioned, "You're Lin Wu, right?" while scanning my entire body.

I shrugged and nodded, uncomfortably. "Do you know me?"

The female laughed. "But I do know you. The "poor" kid who thinks he can hang around with the cool kids is a story I've heard many times."

She said something that made me bristle with a wave of rage. "What's the point, then?"

She took a step towards me and stated, "My point is that you don't belong here. You should stop trying to be someone you're not and stick with your own type".

I clinched my fists as my blood began to boil. "You are not required to answer to me. Please make way for me now."

The girl laughed, evidently finding my response amusing. "I enjoy how feisty it is. Lin, you need to be careful who you cross. Nobody can ever be certain who is looking."

I erupted in rage and indignation as soon as she turned on her heel and went away. Who did she think she was when she spoke to me in that manner? You never know who might be watching, so what did she mean by that?

In an effort to collect my thoughts, I shook my head. I needed to pay attention to more crucial issues, like figuring out who that enigmatic stranger was and why he had assisted me. The girl with the green eyes was going to cause trouble, though, and I needed to start watching my back, something told me.

I meet Linda while walking to the school.

I noticed Linda was scowling as we entered the school. What is the issue? I prompted her.

Oh, it doesn't matter, she said. "Just that a fresh student is beginning today. He's rumored to be extremely conceited and full of himself."

Rolling my eyes, I Excellent, exactly what we need.

We entered the classroom and settled into our seats. I watched the new student enter as we waited for class to begin. He had short, spiky hair, was tall and muscular, and had a haughty smirk on his face.

I informed Linda "it had to be him."

She nodded. "I already know that I don't like him."

She and I both agreed. He just struck me as having a certain vibe about him that I didn't like.

I made an effort to concentrate on the lecture as it began, but I couldn't' help but look over at the new student who was seated opposite from us. He was openly ignoring the instructor and instead was texting on his phone.

The teacher approached him and said, "Pardon me. Please don't use phones in class.

I noticed the new student's contempt in his eyes as he raised his head to face her. He murmured, "Whatever," slipping his phone into his pocket.

I shook my head in frustration. He was going to cause problems.

Linda and I gathered our belongings as class came to a conclusion and made our way to the exit. The new student scowled at us as we passed him. Are those two losers too cool to engage in conversation with me?

I gritted my teeth. This guy was making me incredibly angry.

I grabbed Linda's arm and dragged her away, saying, "Let's leave."

Although the new student called after us, we kept walking. We hadn't seen the last of him, in my opinion.
