The next day, we got engaged in a private ceremony. My parents wanted to make it big because they wanted everyone to know they had a billionaire son-in-law, but thankfully, the devil wanted it to be private. They couldn't say no to him. My parents were quite annoyed at his decision because they couldn't show off everything.
My mother whined the whole time during the engagement. When I was coming out of my room for the ceremony, I heard her say
"We could book a venue in a second and arrange the engagement ceremony," She said with disappointment in her voice. "But no, he wants it to be private. Billionaire with no brain. If you have money, you have to show it off."
For me, it was a relief. I didn't like people's ugly stares and talks. Their suggestions about what I should do and what I shouldn't. I also got to know that his name was Amol. Whatever his name was, he was always going to remain the devil for me. My dad wasn't happy either. He wanted to have a grand wedding for me, so he was upset.
"Now I am getting curious why they want the marriage to happen so quickly," He asked.
"It's good in a way. She won't get a guy like him. He is rich and handsome," My mother replied.
"But Gita....,"
"No ifs no buts, Raju. She is getting a good family and a good home. It doesn't matter if they want this marriage to happen overnight. What matters is that a rich guy wants our daughter, which is a good thing for our family,"
"You are right," My father agreed.
After four days, we got married according to Nepali Hindu tradition. The Devil wanted to get married the next day we got engaged, but my parents didn't agree. I don't know why he wanted that, but my parents convinced him to give them four days to prepare for everything.
On that day, he looked handsome in that traditional outfit. I couldn't stop myself from staring at him. Prarthi was not quite happy, but she supported my decision. She was always supportive and the best person I had in my life.
After a whole hectic day, the wedding finally came to an end. Somewhere, I was happy that I got to leave my parent's house forever. Maybe not forever. It's just a deal.
I was in his room with my head ready to explode. He cleared his throat as he entered the room, but I ignored him. He went to change. Somewhere in the room, it felt familiar, maybe because there was a window in the same place as the room I was living in back then. I had already changed, so I went to sleep. I was lying on the couch trying to sleep when I heard him say,
"What are you doing?" He asked, but I didn't bother to look at him.
"Why.. ?" He was about to speak, but I cut him off.
"Sleeping," I said, turning my face to another side.
"You can sleep on the bed," he suggested. I ignored him. He then came toward me, and I didn't know his intentions until he picked me up and slowly laid me on the bed. I glared at him, and he gave me a sweet smile.
"I am not going to sleep with you in the same bed," I said, getting up.
"We are married now," he told me, sitting beside me on the bed. He looked at me as if I were unaware of it.
"That doesn't mean you can do whatever you want," I glared at him.
"Calm down...you can sleep here... I... I...will sleep on the couch," he said, getting up and walking towards the couch. I glared at his back. If he was going to sleep on the couch, then why so much drama? Drama queen.
I tried, but I couldn't sleep. How could I sleep knowing that now I was married to this devil and that every day I had to tolerate his presence? I knew nothing about him. Everything was messing with my head. I turned to find him staring at the ceiling. He wasn't asleep either. He looked at me and winked. I rolled my eyes.
"Your stare is making me uncomfortable. Please don't rape me with your eyes," he said in a teasing tone, grinning at me.
He was pissing me off, so I turned to the other side, showing my back to him, rolling my eyes.
"Bloody devil, " I murmured, closing my eyes.
I woke up and felt my hand on something hard. I opened my eyes to find him. How come he was on the bed? I was about to get up but couldn't, his hold on me was too tight. I slowly pulled my hand away, and he groaned. He opened his eyes and smiled, while I narrowed my eyes at him.
"What are you doing in this bed? Last time I remember, you were on the couch." I said, pointing towards the couch and glaring at him.
"It is believed that on the first day of marriage, you shouldn't leave your wife alone," he replied with a smirk.
I glared at him. He always got on my nerves. I wish I could kill him and get rid of him forever.
I rolled my eyes and was about to get up when he pulled me towards him. "I know you want me," he whispered, sending chills down my body. I couldn't speak. What the hell was he talking about? Want him? My foot.
I wanted to slap him in the face and tell him to fuck off, but he burst out laughing. Before I could say anything, he got up and left. I don't know what exactly he wanted from me.
It should have been our reception day, but I didn't see any sign of it, and somewhere I was happy. I went to the kitchen, and there was a lady preparing breakfast. As soon as she saw me, she greeted me. I found it weird because it must be me who should greet her. I told her I would prepare breakfast, but she insisted she would do it. I was a very stubborn person. Feeling defeated, she did the other work.
While talking with her, I found out her name was Tina. I asked her how many people lived there, and she told me that there were three other maids. She was the head. It was apparent why they needed four maids. The mansion was huge, but I didn't see his family anywhere.
"So, where are the others?" I asked her.
"Others?" She said it in confusion.
"Yes, his parents and his sister?"
"They don't live here,"
"What? I mean..."
"They live in a different mansion," she said, giving me a soft smile. "All of them have their own house,"
What?
It was shocking to me. He lives alone in this whole mansion? I guess he was much richer than I had thought, but why would a guy like him be so eager to marry me? What could I give him? What? Anyway, the good thing was that I didn't have to do the act of his wife and be a perfect daughter-in-law.
I stood there silently.
"I am glad he is married. Everyone thought he would end up alone," she laughed.
"It's just a deal, darling," I said in my head.
Once I had prepared everything, I told Tina to call the devil for breakfast. He didn't bother to talk or even look at me. We ate in silence. I think he was one of those guys whose mood changes automatically.
I went to the room feeling quite relieved that now I didn't have to wear a sari or pretend to be his wife. The most satisfying thing was, I didn't have to live in the same room as him. That was a huge relief. I can get away from him. I mean, away from his room. I changed into a T-shirt and shorts and started to pack my bag. I was quite happy that I found out about everything. I was about to zip it and leave when,
"What the... hell?" I heard an annoyed, slightly shocked voice.
I turned to find the devil standing at the door. His eyes focused on the bag I was holding.
