A pawn (part two)

Damian made sleeping arrangements for everyone. Lia took baby Seriah to the room that was arranged for Serena.

Serena accompanied her to kiss their good night to her daughter. She was a little wary of her child's safety in the presence of her enemies.

Lia laid the child on the bed and exited the room. Serena sat on the bed next to her child, her mind contemplating her next move.

Them coming to Damian's house was a breach of the routine. For the last five years, she had lived by a code. Doing everything according to her plan to avoid surprises and shocks.

There was no way for her to understand how she didn't pick up on the change in the pattern. She should have known that Acacia would make a move like that. Yet she didn't and it upset her.

She brushed baby Seriah's hair. She was the most permanent person in her life and her source of strength.
