••• Charlotte’s POV •••
The moment I sat in my car, my body began trembling, and my tears started to fall again.
I was prepared for the pain of untying the matebond, but it turned out to be more than agonizing than I had thought.
What was worse, when I met Hayden’s eyes, I felt there were no more ties between us. And no matter how much I tried to tell myself that I didn't love him anymore, the feeling of not being mated to him was still heartbreaking.
I stayed in my car, not bothering to start it yet, and let myself cry and get over the heartbreak.
Lexi was still whimpering, and I knew she was broken because of it.
“Lexi..” I called her name gently, but she didn't reply, and I didn't want to bother her again. She needed time to get over it, just like I did.
I cried until there were no more tears left in me, and my heart became cold. Hayden was no more my mate, and I didn't love him anymore, I said to myself, and this time, I felt it to be true.
