Academy Competition (Pt.1)

Suddenly Caroline and Emmy stopped, staring at my company. Ignoring their gazes I begin to speak " Caroline, Emmy this is Jacklyn, Grant and Blake.", "Jacklyn, Grant, Blake this is Caroline and Emmy."

___________________________________________________________________

"Oh my god it's them!" Caroline shouted with stars in her eyes

" Do you know them" I asked Caroline, and I got a look of absolute disbelief in return

" How do you not, They were last year's star newcomers. They were leagues better than all the others even last place among the group won his match in five seconds. The fifth place winner Grant Ironwood, a tank capable of using pure defense and strength to win his spot. Next is the fourth place winner Blake Hawthorne his ability with shadow magic and his impeccable aim with a bow are crazy for his level. Third place Lapis Azure, her rare magics Hellfire and Ice make her an annoying adversary, capable of putting her opponents into shock so they cannot defend themselves, the second place winner Jacklyn Valentine whose use of wind magic and light magic make her almost unhittable. And the first place winner Johnathan Vermillion, with his sunfire element, high stats and skill beyond his years dominated the scene. They are legends among the school seeing as they were almost as strong as normal adventurers as only graduating first years." Turning from me she grabbed the hand of Jacklyn and started shaking it " It's so nice to meet you, I'm a huge fan"

Jacklyn was standing with her hand scratching the back of her head with a slight blush of embarrassment. " We're not all that special we just tried hard and got strong it was more fun than anything I'm sure anyone could get there if they find their strengths and focus on them."

Caroline heard this and started going on about how wonderful they were, as this was happening Emmy walked over to everyone else who was ignoring Caroline at this point and greeted them.

" Hello it's a pleasure to meet you all" Emmy said to the others and turns to Jacklyn " I'm a huge fan, can I have an autograph"

Jacklyn smiled shyly " I'm sorry but I don't have anything to sign with" Almost instantly a pen and small hand sized canvas appear in Emmy's hands " Don't worry I got it all covered" A sweet smile spread across Emmy's face.

Signing her name on the small board, Jacklyn said her good-byes as they had to prepare for the tournament that would start soon.

We get into our seats and I begin to notice more people come into the arena, the stands around the place we're filling quickly.

" Why are their so many people" I ask my friends who are still hung up on their chance meeting at the current rising stars of the city.

" You don't know a lot do you? I guess you might not if you don't know who you're friends are, anyways the guild run competitions are a favorite of many so the stands are often full even if only students are participating." Caroline said having returned to reality.

Waiting a while longer, the Guildmaster walks out onto the field, " Ladies and gentlemen, I ,as you all know, am the guild master of the Elysium City Adventurer's Guild and the principal of it's academy. I would like to welcome you all to the First, Guild Academy's Ranking Competition. This year, like all others, we have a new group of potentially talented children, students hoping to further their craft in the fields of magic, sword play, and survival tactics, as well as further their academics in a practical and prosperous environment that will allow their gifts to grow. I would like to welcome these courageous younglings. I would also like to welcome back all of our returning students, eager for the challenges that await this new year."

" I will now briefly go over the rules for those in the audience that are unfamiliar and to ensure all participants know them and will abide by them in the Coming matches. The rules are simple. No stat changing equipment are allowed, You must stay inside the ring for the duration of the match, if you are knocked out for any reason you lose the match, if you fall unconscious you lose the match, and if the opponent lands an incapacitating blow you lose the match. All attacks are allowed as we have medical staff on standby for the injured. The last thing is no fatal injury allowed, this is not a place for death, but one of friendly competition. If you are caught actively trying to kill your opponent you will be Removed from the tournament and dealt with accordingly. I know you all don't want to sit listening to an old man any longer, so I will leave with this, Good luck to all the competitors, and on behalf of the staff and students I thank the audience for coming."

As he leaves the field Another man who I don't recognize walks onto the field " All First year students please come down to the field and join your rings for the first rounds of the competition, Before we start we would like to mention that their is not a perfect number of participants so some talented students were automatically move up one fight at the staffs digression please do not complain about unfairness as it will fall on deaf ears" The man then leaves the field and people started trickling down the seats and arriving at their designated areas

" Let's go" Caroline hops up and starts running down the steps to the field. Emmy with a faint smile watching Caroline excitedly running down the seating area follows after her with me right behind her.

At the bottom was Caroline impatiently waiting for us, Come on hurry up, she then pulse is the rest of the way to the field where gave our good lucks and went to different rings. I was in six, While Caroline was in three and Emmy was in one.

The games began as the final people joined and last minute preparations were completed, each ring had two overseers pt ensure their was no foul play and to intervene when needed, I noticed one was our lovely Miss Hemiko.

The first match of my ring was about to start, I was scared. I had never fought someone in my life like this. I had fought off some bullies and I was fine with some self defense but I was never trained and was an arguably weak person, all things considered. I now go off of stays now however so it is a mystery to me how things will go.

" Round 1 match 1 Rana and Edwin" I heard one of the other overseers called out.

Rana was a mage, I think and Edwin welded a sword. I was on the edge of my seat preparing for an epic battle

" Match Start"

Rana began to chant something and Edwin ran forward to attack from the front and to be honest they kinda were slow. Rana had finished her chant right before Edwin arrived before her. A fireball fired from the circle and hit Edwin in the chest and caused a tiny explosion, the explosion that occured was not big but enough to knock the both of them down being a point blank range. Rana was fine just fell backwards and Edwin had a hole on the chest of his uniform light burns showing, they looked uncomfortable at best. Edwin got back up and continued his charge after, Rana started to run back and began another chant. It was slower this time probably due to the fact she was now moving.

Edwin was faster and caught up just before the spell finished, striking with a thrust. Rana looked panicked and tripped falling backwards, Edwin tripped over her and rolled face first out of the ring.

" Winner Rana"

I wasn't sure of I should be disappointed or happy. It was going to be relatively simple if I only have to do that to win but, I don't want to beat up a bunch of little kids. Well I'm probably smaller than the rest of them but still. All I could do is wait for now until my turn.

The following matches followed the same pattern, only a little more impressive. One round was a pair of mages who had the single longest match ever, one used earth magic and the other had water magic both didn't move EVER and only after about five minutes did one of the mages run out of magic and forfeit. The only noteworthy fight was one between a female wind magic user and a girl with a mace. The magic user was an interesting person, she was shy and shaking on her way up to the stadium and was fidgety the whole time she was up. The match started and the mace user rushed in and the mage started a chant but she was still looking like a lost kitten until a mace almost hit hit her and in a split second she dodged the mace punched the guy holding it in the stomach, getting a visible reaction and launching him out of the ring with wind magic.

" Match 6 Alice and leonard"

Now it was my turn, I walked up to the ring and so did my opponent. He was a guy with a smug look on his face and I wasn't sure wIf he was

" What? This is my opponent? Excuse me, Instructors, I think their is an issue, do you really think so poorly of me to put me against such a pathetic opponent? Little girl go home grow a little before coming back to lose to me. I don't want to look like a monster for hurting a child, So go back to sucking your mother's tits, maybe you'll grow some common sense too." He had a snarky tone and condescending look on his face. He had really pissed me off.

I flip him off and he just looks confused, but I giggle to myself since I can openly insult him and he was clueless, it was liberating but didn't feel as good as I had hoped, a reaction would have been better.

I stare at him for a moment and miss Hemiko just laughs a little and prepared to start the match.

" Match start"

l start to gather Mana into my hand as it begins sparkling, as leonard runs at me, I don't know if it's because I was the one fighting or if he was actually better than the others but he quickly approached me from the front probably hoping to assert his dominance and end things quickly

As he gets about half way to me I fire a unrestrained beam of Sunfire and it hits his leg burning his cloths and scorching his skin to the point it began to bleed, stumbling with shock and pain visible on his face he continues forward quicker than last time, probably seeing me as an actual threat, and being embarrassed about underestimating me seeing as that was probably the worst injury seen in this pathetic competition.

A brilliant idea comes to mind and I begin to back up and approach the edge of the field. I stand right in front of the line surrounding the ring and wait for him to approach gathering Mana as a preparation in case he catches on to what I'm doing.

He gets closer to me and I'm starting to worry about what may happen if I time this wrong, " I've got this" I whisper to myself and focus more on my opponent. I notice his movements and the rest of the world slow a little and I prepare to move. he gets within striking distance and I wait for him to swing. His sword, tip low to the ground lifts up as it arks heading towards my neck as I sidestep and dodge the sword moving behind him I shot him in the ass with a beam of light and his whole body instantly tensed, falling to the ground as I grab him by the legs pushing them over his head, scorpion style, resulting in him leaving the ring.

I got inspiration for the finishing move from a book I read once In my past life. When I wasn't busy with school and work I would often read. The more outlandish and fantasy based the better, it helped me escape from reality. This character in particular had an obsession with hitting opponents in the ass with attacks and I couldn't think of a better, more painful, or more embarrassing way to deal with the pile of trash before me. Before I thought it was was an odd quirk, a unique taste of a certain Queen, but now that I did it myself I can say it is quite enjoyable, I'm still not shameless enough to make it a constant though, only for the people I hate. 'I think I enjoyed that a bit too much. Does that make me a bad person? Meh, whatever.' I think when I notice that I was smiling wide at Leonard's still crumpled body, and laughing to myself.

And like that, I ended my debut match in the academy with a stunning display.
