Chapter 11:"Dragon King"

The passing of Daemon Narnareon shocked Valyria Freehold, and it marked a change in the balance of power. Other dragon lords saw this as a chance to take control of House Narnareon. Even though there was a rightful heir, Vahaemorys, he wasn't taken seriously because of his young age and appearance. In the eyes of the Valyrians, without Daemon Narnareon, House Narnareon seemed weak and lacking a strong leader.

Vahaemorys, however, did not simply lament his loss. His first course of action was to visit the Elder Dragon's cave. The strength and prestige of a dragon lord family came not only from their wealth and military might but also from the power of their dragons. The stronger a lord's dragon, the more respect and reverence they garnered. Since Vahaemorys couldn't rely on his identity as an Irregular to gain recognition among the Valyrians, even though they referred to him as the Black Dragon, it was a gesture of goodwill towards House Narnareon, as no one dared to underestimate the family at that time.

Vahaemorys's father's dragon was one of the Elder Dragons, a magnificent creature over 300 years old and of one of the purest dragon breeds. In the world of dragons, the purity of their blood determined their quality and strength. The purer the dragon's blood, the more powerful and long-lived they became. Targaryen dragons were known for their lower blood purity, with only Balerion the Black Dread possessing moderately pure dragon blood who couldn't live long because of injury it sustained. Dragons with purer blood could hold more magical power and become more intelligent.

Vahaemorys finally arrived at the entrance to the cave where the Elder Dragons were kept. He had to be very careful to avoid catching the guards' attention as he made his way to the cave. Elder Dragons were notoriously difficult to tame, and someone of his young age wouldn't be able to enter the cave under normal circumstances. As he stood before the cave entrance, Vahaemorys couldn't help but be awestruck by its immense size, towering over 400 meters in height. With trepidation, he began to make his way into the cave.

As Vahaemorys ventured deeper into the cave, he found himself in total darkness, even with the light from his lamp. Dragons were solitary creatures by nature, and although some might share their dwelling places, they preferred solitude. They were highly sensitive to disturbances, including light. In their caves and pits, they found solace and privacy.

Since Vahaemorys, unable to sense the presence of others, Vahaemorys decided to unleash his aura as the Noblesse. As he did, his eyes began to glow with a fierce scarlet light, and it seemed as if blood materialized out of thin air swirling around him. The pressure emanating from him caused the rubble in the cave to tremble.

In the midst of this eerie display, Vahaemorys suddenly beheld enormous fluorescent eyes, each as large as him or even bigger, glowing in various colors. One after another, massive dragon heads emerged from the darkness, encircling Vahaemorys. Their imposing presence made Vahaemorys keenly aware of his own insignificance without the power he possessed. The dragons regarded Vahaemorys with a mixture of curiosity and interest.

Long ago, like Daenys the Dreamer, Valyrians used to have special dreams called dragon dreams given by goddess Tessarion. These dreams showed visions, often with dragons in them. One of the dreams that never came true was about the birth of a Dragon King. No one knew when or how to identify this Dragon King. They only knew that to become one, you needed the approval of elder dragons. But passing the test set by these ancient creatures was nearly impossible. Valyrians could withstand ordinary flames, but the fiery breath of elder dragons was something else entirely.

While Valyrians believed that only those with silver-gold hair and purple eyes could become a Dragon King, they didn't know that the chosen one didn't necessarily have to be Valyrian. Every millennium, a person worthy of becoming a Dragon King was born. But none had ever managed to get close to the Elder Dragons, thanks to the beliefs of the Valyrians. They were convinced that only someone with the typical Valyrian features could take up this mantle.

In the dragon dreams of Valyrian ancestors, the Dragon King appeared. This was something Valyrians were either unaware of or unwilling to share: the Dragon King had red eyes and black hair. And this was something Vahaemorys didn't know. Only a few records about the birth of a Dragon King were found in Valyria, and they were kept in the Narnareon house. Vahaemorys had read them, but he didn't know that he was a candidate for the title, even without the powers of a Noblesse, so he just thought of taming another dragon which is more powerful.

One of the reasons behind the Doom of Valyria was the delay in the birth of the Dragon King. In this world, dragons were meant to be protectors of the realm once they were born. However, instead of fulfilling their duty, they remained mindless creatures, causing destruction. So the gods decided to create another entity from mankind, someone with the intelligence and wisdom to control the dragons and fulfill their true purpose. Despite the Dragon King never appearing, the Valyrians became skilled at taming dragons. Unfortunately, they used these creatures to wreak havoc rather than defending the realm, leading to more chaos and destruction.

As a result, invaders entered the realm and became powerful deities like R'hllor, able to overpower the dragon species. This rendered the existence of dragons pointless and led to their downfall.

The gods, observing the turmoil, decided it was time to intervene. They wanted to put an end to the Valyrians and their dragons, allowing other people to rule the world. However, Tessarion, one of the goddesses, took pity on a young girl named Daenys Targaryen. Daenys belonged to a lesser noble house among the freeholder dragonlords. Tessarion sent her dragon dreams, showing her what was to come.

Convinced by these visions, Daenys persuaded her father to move their family and their dragons to Dragonstone in Westeros, far from Valyria.

Meanwhile, the gods put their plan into action. One fateful day, the unsuspecting Valyria and its capital were shaken by rumbling sounds. Mount Valyr, looming above them, erupted in smoke, ash, and fire. The violent tremors demolished the beautiful structures of Valyria, and the fires consumed the magnificent artworks. When the catastrophe was over, the city lay in ruins, and the dragons, unable to endure the ashy air, perished. Valyria, along with the dragons they had created, ceased to exist.
