Chapter 20 Adaptation and Degeneration (3)
Hearing this, Lu Yang was stunned. His drunken mind immediately sobered.
"Since one cycle is 60 years according to Earth, then the optimal lifespan was 120 years?" Lu Yang was amazed because most humans he knew died even before reaching 80 years old.
In those days, several who lived beyond 90 were respected elders. Those who survived above 100 years old were considered legendary characters. Characters whom people interviewed for their secret of long life.
"Of course, it was the optimum lifespan if you take care of your health properly," Xian Xui smirked.
As Lu Yang's partner, he knew many stories about Lu Yang's life. He knew how low the life expectancy of those humans. The fact that many died even before one cosmic cycle showed how poor their health was.
Lu Yang ignored his partner and continued to ask, "So if I'm a D-level Ordinary Race, why can I practice?"
Luankin looked in the distance and said, "When I said you couldn't practice, I was referring to your physical condition. A D-level Ordinary Race is incapable of sensing aura. If you can't sense aura, how could you start practicing?"
"So you needed to improve your body and senses."
"Only through tempering your physiques, removing the impurities, and heightening your senses would you sense aura. You could only break this deadlock situation after you manage to sense aura. Once you start cultivating, absorbing aura, and optimizing your genes better to adapt to the universe, you naturally can continue to promote."
"As you have experienced, the D-level Ordinary Race would reach a cultivation bottleneck when promoted from Junior to Senior level. And your limit was Venerable level."
Lu Yang remembered his painful experience. The practitioner path he had chosen was the Spirit Energy Cultivation Path, a popular path among humans. The fictional legends about cultivators in novels and media have influenced many people's choices.
He had heard that some other planets' civilizations had called Qi Cultivation Path or Aura Cultivation Path. Nonetheless, it was the same.
Another popular path chosen by humans was the Elemental Energy Cultivation Path. Those dreaming of becoming magic and shooting fireballs had chosen this path.
Technically, this path was the least suitable cultivation path for humans among the Four Cultivation Paths. The other two paths were the Spiritual Cultivation Path and the Body Cultivation Path.
The Spirit Energy Cultivation Path trains the body through absorbing aura or spirit energy into the body.
Practitioners would use the aura to temper each body part and cell before storing the energy in their Jing Dantian. As they nurture aura within their body, they slowly accumulate aura within the body.
Their promotion path was from Qi Gathering Realm (a Junior practitioner), Foundation Building Realm (Senior practitioner), Golden Core Realm (Venerable Master), Nascent Soul Realm (Exalted Venerable), Spirit Transformation Realm (Profound Venerable) and so on.
However, for many people, it was a struggle to promote from Qi Gathering to Foundation Building. Failure in building their foundation was a typical occurrence. Most of them needed an elixir to assist them to advance successfully.
Relatively, to become Golden Core was much more relaxing. As long as the body and the foundation were hit stably and accumulation was enough, one could be promoted to Golden Core. Of course, the feat of accumulating and building a stable foundation was not something everyone could do. It takes tremendous effort and resources for him to be promoted to Golden Core.
Nonetheless, from the perspective of cultivation, it was easier.
"I understand. So you mean as D-level, my limit was Venerable? I couldn't promote to Exalted?" Lu Yang asked with uncertainty.
"Life-level-wise, Venerable is your limit. That's why when you want to be promoted to Exalted later, you need to overcome your limit. In this way, your life level will become a C-level Magical Race like us."
"But by overcoming the limit, you will be baptized by nature. Normally, there will be lighting striking you," Xian Xui interrupted. Hidden in a corner of his eyes, there's a meaning of teasing.
Sure enough. Hearing Xian Xui's words, Lu Yang screamed in surprise, "Thunder! Heavenly Punishment? There's heavenly dao?"
Hearing his words, everyone laughed out loud.
"No. No. It's not what you are thinking. Hahaha...," Xian Xui laughed while slapping Lu Yang's back. When he interrupted earlier, he knew how his friend would react. Lu Yang did not disappoint his expectations.
"Ouch, stop it. Don't go around slapping me whenever you are happy," Lu Yang complained.
"Haha...Sorry. Sorry. Hahaha...," Xian Xui said. But after sensing Lu Yang's dangerous glare, he immediately stopped laughing.
With a serious face, he shifted Lu Yang's attention by saying, "I know what you were referring to, but the thunder strike was not heavenly tribulation. Sure, some worlds did call it that, but I can tell you it was not."
"Yeah, what Xian Xui said was true. The thunder strike happened because the condition of your cells and body had changed. From a lower lifeform becoming a higher level life," Luankin explained.
"I believe by your previous civilization standard, you have at least learned this as common knowledge. When changing the states of matter, energy would be absorbed or released."
"For example, when you want to convert helium to hydrogen and vice versa, I believe the explanation you learned was to use the fission or fusion method at the atomic level. The nuclei separation would absorb a lot of energy while combining two nuclei would release vast amounts of energy."
"But from our point of view, this energy was the aura we sense. I'm not sure what your scientist called it, and I'm just a crude person myself." Luankin continued, "But when fusion and fission occurred at the subatomic level, it would absorb or release energy. And this energy existed everywhere."
Lu Yang tried hard to remember what the professors in the university taught him. Was it the ionization potential? The nuclear force?
"Do you mean the bond at the subatomic level? The change of structure and composition that occurred between the proton, electron, and neutron? Or are you referring to various elementary particles like the quark?" Lu Yang excitedly asked based on his textbook knowledge.
He does not particularly understand it. As an engineering student, he had only studied it superficially to pass the exam as required for his degree. Later, despite his educational background, he went into the commercial and business route for his career, making his professor angry and ignoring him for a while.
But he was excited to hear things like subatomic and quantum mechanics matter. Even during his school years, subjects about atoms, quantum mechanics, and quantum supercomputers had attracted his attention. Maybe it was due to animation's influence his interest in the topics of computing, engineering, and quantum physics remained.
"I'm not sure of that myself. The way your science describe atom, particles, and matter might be different from our understanding. And as I said, I'm not an academician. So don't ask me this confusing stuff," Luankin glared. Why did this little guy ask this confusing thing? Didn't you hear that he was a boorish guy? Are you looking down on a crude guy like himself?
"Anyway, what you just need to know was that the energy was aura."
