Kisah berawal ketika Mulki mengusulkan kepada Dipta untuk mengajak dua orang terdekatnya. Yaitu sahabat dan kekasihnya. Dipta (Tokoh ‘aku’ dalam cerita ini) adalah seorang mahasiswa salah satu politeknik di Bandung, yang mempunyai sahabat dekat bernama Yoyo. Semenjak diracuni oleh Yoyo, Dipta menjadi menyukai kegiatan alam khususnya mendaki gunung. Sudah banyak gunung yang sudah dia daki bersama Yoyo. Yoyo (Seorang paling pendiam di Geng Dipta) merupakan sahabat dekat Dipta. Dia merupakan seseorang paling pendiam di Gengnya. Bahkan cenderung misterius. Namun, Yoyo mempunyai kharisma dan pengaruh yang kuat. Meski sudah bersahabat dekat dengan Dipta, Yoyo tetap pintar menyembunyikan hal pribadinya. Mulki. Anak paling tampan di Geng Dipta. Ia selalu membuat iri Dipta dengan mengumbar kemesraan bersama kekasihnya, Desti. Di balik ketampanan dan kegagahannya, Mulki adalah seorang BUCIN. Dia sangat tergila-gila dengan Desti. Dia memiliki hobi yang sama. Yaitu mendaki gunung. Tak ayal, dia selalu ikut mendaki bersama Dipta. Namun, yang spesial kali ini adalah Mulki mengajak sang pujaan hati. Desti. Bahkan, Mbok Irah pernah menyebutkan bahwa rombongan itu membawa dua bau busuk. Bukan dari bau badan mereka yang belum mandi, namun, dari bau darah haid Desti, dan dari dalam diri Ega. Ibang dan Ega sempat berseteru. Untungnya, Ibang masih berbelas kasihan sehingga Ega tidak meninggal seketika. Perseteruan itu membuat Ega kabur dan memutuskan untuk mendaki Merapi sendirian.
