Chapter 37

“No buts, Sam,” I said. “You have never doubted yourself or your convictions. Don’t start today. We need you strong and fierce, no matter who you are. We’re relying on you today.”

“Okay,” Sam said. “I’ll do my best, whatever that is.”

The place was less than a mile away, and we reached it quickly. Looking at the short time it took us in the boat, it was easy to see how Sam had stumbled into this area if he had started swimming behind the Worthington’s beach house.

Two groups of people faced each other on the shore. Stefani stood with at least thirty people behind her while she faced Stefano, who stood there with only Cole, Derek, and Wyn. They all wore armor, but it was odd to notice that Stefani’s matched Stefano’s. I had never seen a house formally fight amongst themselves. Tom got the boat in as close as he could, and then we jumped out, pulling the boat to the shore.

We rushed to stand behind Stefano, but still, we were tragically outnumbered.
