Chapter 1 - The Concert

Devvy Love

In the centre of the enormous, grand stage under the luminous spotlights wearing dazzling dress and performing her hit songs for her fans is none other than "The public-beloved singer, Miss Devvy Love".At young age, She has swept away the love of teenagers, middle-aged men and mainstream media with her angelic sweet voice, captivative beauty and her devotion to her fans.

Despite soaking sweat underneath her costume and wobbly slender legs, she put on the brightest smile as she always does whenever she is with a fan and kept performing. Judging from the size of human waves that's about to max out the stadium's capacity and continuous surge of rooting sound from the crowd, one can easily tell that she has a strong fan base.

As I look up at the stage, standing among the crowd, I don't know what to feel. Not sure to feel happy for my best friend for achieving her greatest dream or feel emotional considering we shared the same dark past.

During one of her breaks, I went to the backstage as I got a SVIP passage from the singer herself. I made a three-light-knock on her changing room's door hoping that I am not interfering with her break.Then, I heard a cheerful, lively voice.

"Come in!!"

I entered the room. She screamed in joy when she saw me.

"Hey Sugar! You cameeee."

"How could I say no to a VIP for a tickets-in-demand concert and miss my best friend's first ever MEGA concert? Of course I came, Devvy".

She was getting ready for her next performance. As she tried to strap her earphone on her lower back around her waist, she said

"Thank you. It means a lot to me that you came and support me."

"You are welcome. “

I closed the door, looked around the room briefly and said

“Ahemmm.....I don't see Josh. Is he in the North Wing?"

I didn't mean to push her off the edge when I said those words. That was a rhetorical question. I don't know where Josh is but I know he is not here.

A slight disappointment ran through her face but she immediately put her fake smile back on and said

"Ohh…he couldn’t make it. He wanted to be here but he got a call from his colleague and was needed to come down to the gallery right away...You know how artists are. We don't own ourselves.”

As she was applying more gloss on her lower lips, she continued.

“Besides I don't really need him right now he's got his stuff and I am too busy to think about his attendance anyway. But Edgy is here. You missed him by a hair. Actually, he was just here. Go say hi to him for me. Will ya? He asked about you too."

There is no art gallery stuff right now. Josh is probably getting stoned at some dumb with his stone-buddies now. I know when Devvy is lying. She tends to look at other people's forehead when she is lying. She wouldn't avert her eyes and she can't exactly look in the eyes straight. Instead she looks at foreheads giving others misguided signal that she is not lying and is looking in the eyes. A clever move. But I saw it through.

Then she brought up her boyfriend into the conversation to change the subject. As for Edward, I saw him on my way to here. He just gave me a "Hey man, what's up?" and disappeared into the crowd. Proably handing out his signed custom-made T-shirts that he prepard in advance to some teenage girls that came to the concert.And I'm fairly sure he didn't ask about me. She was just trying to make him seem like a gentleman which I say, is something he's not. But I don't want to upset my best friend so I said.

"OK.I will, on my way out."

As I finished saying that, a knock appeared and not 2 seconds later came a sudden barge in.

It was her manager. Daisy Blossom.

"Daisy!" She used her high-tempo voice trying to sound annoyed but not mad.

"What did we talk about knocking doors?"

She said but sounding more like scolding. Daisy complained.

"I did then I didn't hear a reply so I let myself in thinking you might be in a jam or something. (Looking at my direction) Oh hey Endy I didn't know you were here. Did u come here to support your Spice (that was my nickname for Devvy).By the way, I saw Mrs.Donovan the other day at the mall. She was complaining about those shoes she bought that suddenly don't fit her anymore. I mean what's there to complain. It was CLEARLY her fault for not making sure her shoe size. No shoes would suddenly grow themselves overnight. Am I right? That woman's always like that. I mean..."

"DAISY!"

Before she got to finish her sentence, Devvy cut her off.

After taking a deep breath.She spelled out

"W-H-Y are you here?"

Daisy replied with a slight panic.

"Oh I forgot the main thing. Your break's up. Time to go again, girl."

"WHAT?"

Sounded angrily, she continued

"You came here to tell me the ONE thing important that I need to go up to the stage during my concert and you forgot!!But you didn't miss to mention Mrs.Donovan to Endy??"

"I was gonna but I saw Endy and it led me to Mrs.Dono..."

"Enough!"She let out some anger and then continued.

"I can't believe you Daisy. What were you thinking forgetting the bigger thing an-and bad-mouthing other people? I know you have been like that but I didn't think you would.....SABOTAGE my concert. "

"Well.....sabotage is a little harsh. I think you meant to say RUIN?"

Daisy joked.

"I know what I meant!!OK. There is no time. I gotta go back to the stage. Now come help me check my costume and make-up then we can talk about your punishment later. May be I will fire you".

As she came up to Devvy and help her with the costume set up, Daisy jokingly said

"Yeah you will. te hee".

"I WILL this time. For real. You just watch. You stupid good-for-nothing manager."

Devvy countered.

But we all know Devvy will NEVER fire Daisy. Not now. Not ever. If anything, Devvy herself wouldn't let go of her manager. They are like sisters. They have been. Sure, sometimes, Daisy can be irresponsible and adorably clumsy but she is the most faithful and caring human-being to Devvy on this planet earth and Devvy may seem like awful to Daisy, but she has cherished her like a big sister she has never had. She would go to a great extent to keep Daisy. She just doesn't show her affection toward her in an obvious way. But I know it. Daisy knows it. People from her inner circle know it.

Those two are inseparable, mutually-understanding and caring to each other. Exaggeratingly saying, if it weren't for Daisy, Devvy wouldn't be where she is standing right now. Long before hit songs and concerts and media's interest, Daisy had given away herself to promoting Devvy's career and taken on the head admin position of Devvy's Fandom base, DLovish. Devvy saw through her genuineness, her willingness to make her shine brighter than other stars right away. May be that's why she fired her last manager on the spot and recrucited Daisy.

Ever since then, days have been golden for Devvy-;awards after awards, constant appearance on tv-variety shows, holding her solo concert almost every year. But for some incomprehensible reasons, Daisy seems more thrilled and happier than Devvy on the achievements in a little bit creepy way.

Although Daisy is two years older than Devvy who is in her mid-twenties, they look like the same age. Given certain distance, it is hard to tell who is who. Despite my overprotective doubts, I still adore Daisy for sole reason that she makes my friend happy.

Maybe one of the resaons that launched Devvy’s career into fame is their weird relationship/friendship. For some reasons, her fans also seem to love their back-and-forth adorable squabbles and revere Daisy as half much as they adore Devvy.They would be heart-broken if Devvy were to actually fire Daisy.

One time, they both played a prank on her fans. Both Devvy and Daisy dressed up in exact same outfits to one of the shows letting their fans distinguish which one is the real Devvy.Of course they are not identical.But they had the public confused for some first minutes upon their arrival on the red carpet.

Those two have been compatible, weirdly-bonded and above of all, loving to each other. Daisy was, is and will always be Devvy's biggest fan and she is the closest Devvy will ever have to family if she rules out my existence and of course, JOSH's.
