Fresh start.

It was the time of her life and she aspired to live it well.

Moving to somewhere new can be hard yet hopeful. The faith that lingered on in her heart that this had got to be it was quite sound and she wasn't alone. Seated next to a fine young man on the moving bus, she had leaned her head to rest on his shoulder while they held hands. He planted a tender kiss on her forehead and it felt like an assurance that he was glad they took the bold step.

Settling in at first can be tiring, shutting the door was enough and leaving their luggage to lay about the one-room apartment was necessary. They let themselves fall onto the mattress and it felt comfy.

"Still can't believe we did it." The young man said with his eyes pinned to the ceiling. He had brown hair and it was obvious it needed a cut. His very pointy nose could be seen from sideways and his long chin too.

"We did." She responded having exhaled. She turned her head to look at him from her end, she could tell he was nervous.

"It's a beautiful city–" he said,

–" with lots of opportunities. We can be everything we hope to be here."  She replied.

"I know you can tell." He turned his head towards her.

"That you are worried?" She inquired.  "Yes, it's written all over you but you do not have to be I can assure you. Positive vibes only, this is going to be the beginning of greater things for us. I can feel it and you best feel it too." She added.

"You know I would go to the end of the earth with you and for you." He said to her.

"I know.." She smiled. "But all I'm asking of you right now is to trust me. Everything will be just perfect, you'll see." She said, sitting up at once excitedly.

"Hmm." He hummed.

"What?" She inquired as she tried to loosen her hair bun.

"Nothing." He said,

"Spill it." She ordered as she turned her face to his.

"It worries me." He responded.

"What does?" She asked.

"The last time." He said,

"Oh come on. Not with this again." She got up at once.

"You cannot blame me." He said, sitting up.

"Well, of course, I can and I will. What is it with you? Why do you have to be dramatic about everything?" She said,

"What do you expect? Scarlett, I love you, I always have and you know this. I know you are ambitious and that you have got these big dreams you wish to fulfil but does it have to be at any cost?" He replied.

"Yes, it has to be and because you would rather let your emotions get in the way of your reasoning, you fail to see the bigger picture here!" She said,

"What bigger picture is there!" He got up, upset.

"That all I do is for you, for us, to have a better life!" She replied.

"Is that what you tell yourself when you look in the mirror? Or anytime your conscience pricks? Do you even have one? Because if you did, you would know how hard it is to live with the thought of you having some other guy f*ck you just to get to do all that!" He said,

"You are such a D*ck." She said,

"No, I am a man who is madly in love with you. A man who is willing to let go of all your excesses, but I am human! All of it haunts me, don't you see?" He said,

"This is how the world works. It's not a fair one and certainly not fair to us women. It's not my fault I have a pussy, when a man sees me, all he sees is a huge lump of pussy meat and he just wants to have a taste. How many interviews have I gone for? How many offices have I worked in? Why do I keep quitting? Do you want to tell me? I keep quitting because you ask me to when you get to find out that every single one of my bosses wants to f*ck me or send me the f*ck out!" She vented.

"We could try something else." He said,

"Hah, like what?"  She asked.

"We would figure it out." He replied.

"There is no time for that, Drake. I'm not getting any younger and I am yet to have one meaningful achievement, and so are you. There is no time to figure things out. It is what it is, we just have to be willing to go the extra mile where it isn't crowded." She said,

"And see where that's gotten us. Your rash decision made a town completely unsafe for us because you got into an entanglement with the wrong man. How sure are we that we are safe here?" He said,

"We are." She retorted, peering into his eyes.

"I'm the man, I should do the work, the dirty work if necessary." He said to her.

"So you could someday rub it in my face or throw me out when you eventually go crazy over some other hoe?" She replied.

"You know there can never be another woman." He said,

"No, I don't know that. Do you want to work? Fine, you can, I'm not stopping you. I never did. So don't stop me. You know you can't." She said, turning away. "Tomorrow, we both go job hunting." She amplified, stepping out of the apartment.

It was a busy town, the car honks went on and everybody seemed to have somewhere they had to be even at that hour.  She couldn't tell where she was heading, perhaps she only wanted to see the town, and familiarize herself with it but now she was going to make a quick cross– her mind was clouded.

BEEP!!!

She fell to her knees and turned her head towards the black-coated Mercedes

that was just on her left.

"What do you think you are doing?"  A man dressed in a black suit voiced as he stepped out of the vehicle from the driver's seat. His tone was upset, and his face was furious. As she tried to get up on her feet, she made the effort to lift her head.

"Is this how you all drive around like mad men over here?"  She said, immediately her eyes could see his face, she felt something. He was a stunner and as her eyes strolled downwards on him, his slightly bow-legs became obvious in his slim-fit pence trouser.

"Oh, you are new here I see," He said standing face to face with her.  Some people had stopped to witness the incident. Others who remained behind in their cars kept hitting on their car horns while yelling "Get moving!"

"It's a free city. So much to do, so much to enjoy but one rule to stay alive,"  he said, looking deep into her eyes. "Never be in my way."  He warned.

"Guess what? I know men like you, who act all tough and rude but actually, it's just Daddy issues." She said,

She watched his eyes dim. She knew if they were anywhere away from the public eye, he would waste no time getting his hands to squeeze her throat yet she loved how superior it made her feel.

"I'd keep you in mind."   He said, and then swiftly headed back into his car.

Stepping back into the apartment, she headed for the table, tearing out a piece of paper from the book that lay on it.

"Where have you been? You got me worried." Drake said once he got out of the restroom. She paid no attention to him, only forged ahead to get her bag from the bedside stool. She reached her hand into it, got out a pen and rushed back to the paper. She penned something down quickly almost like not to forget.

"You can't hear me talking or what?"  Drake added in confusion. In that instant, he took note of a red stain on her left knee. Since she was wearing a white dress.

"What-what happened? You are bleeding. You are hurt." He said worriedly as he hurriedly approached her.

"I'm fine, just a minor accident." She said,

"What? That's it, this is a bad sign." He said,

"Oh, Drake, if I hadn't had the accident, I wouldn't have this." She said, lifting the paper to his face.

"What's that?" He inquired.

"I wouldn't need to job hunt. I bumped into an advert and I am going to try it out," she said,

" What job is it this time?" He inquired.

"I am going to try modelling. I have got the natural qualifications." She said with a smile.

"And some minutes ago, you talk of your bosses only seeing you as a sex doll? Now you wish to present yourself as one to them?" He sounded frustrated.

"Get a grip of yourself, will you? I'm going for it. Let's see you come up with a better job." She told him.
