Chapter 0: Prologue

In a dark room, the rain pounded against the window, creating a melancholic sound. A young man with black hair sat in front of a dust-covered piano that begged to be played. He ran his fingers over the keys gently, but the melodies he loved to play could no longer be played. It wasn't that the piano was unusable, but rather that he was the one who had become useless.

Adolfo, now 22, lived alone in a small apartment. The passion that once gave his life meaning—the dream of becoming a famous pianist—was buried under the responsibilities and challenges of adult life. Sadly, after that accident, he gave up what gave his life meaning—the piano, the instrument he once was willing to dedicate the rest of his days to.

"Why?! Why can't I play the piano? I can't stand it, I can't stand it anymore. Every day, this feeling grows bigger. I lost the people I once loved and my reason for living. Haven't I suffered enough?"

All that remained were memories of the dreams he had to abandon and the loves that could never be. Now, he just wanted to drown in the memories of those moments when he was once happy.

Past

"Mom, I'm leaving," he said as he hurried to put on his backpack.

"Be careful, and remember you have to choose an extracurricular activity as we agreed," his mother replied from the kitchen.

"Yes, Mom, see you later," Adolfo replied without much enthusiasm.

He left the house and walked to school. He was in his first year of high school and was 15 years old. He lived with his parents, who required him to participate in all school activities if he wanted to play the piano at parties or events. They wanted to make sure playing the piano wasn't just a passing whim.

But for Adolfo, that wasn't the case. The piano was his life; he couldn't imagine a day without his beloved piano. He even considered pursuing a career in piano professionally. Nevertheless, his parents wouldn't accept it—they wanted him to study a more serious and lucrative career like medicine or engineering.

However, once he was at school, his problems seemed to disappear as if they had never existed. The reason for this was Sofía, the girl he had been hopelessly in love with for years. Sofía was a classmate, a beautiful, intelligent, and kind girl always surrounded by friends. Adolfo admired her from afar, not daring to approach or speak to her. He knew she didn't even notice him—he was just one among the thirty students in the class.

The classes flew by as he watched her. Adolfo let out a big sigh—"She's just as beautiful as always," he thought.

"Guys, that's all for today. Do your homework and remember to choose your extracurricular activity wisely, because you won't be able to change it until after a month."

"Hey, hey Sofía, which one are you going to choose?"

"I don't know, my parents say I should learn to swim, so I think I'll go for swimming."

As if it were a divine revelation, Adolfo knew which activity to choose.
