Why God? Just Why?

3 years after Urushis' retirement.

For the last 3 years, Urushi had remained unbothered by the Assassin syndicate. They left him alone, as well as kept his New store Urushis safe from any harm, however, the death of Botan the Second let his son Botan the Third come into power. Naturally, he still kept his end of the deal, by keeping away from Urushis', however, today was the day that his life would turn into hell.

As Urushi dropped off his son, Haruto at his grade 3 elementary school, he walked back home to open up shop for business. To be frank his store was doing poorly, the weapons that he had set up rusted with time, and instead of attracting customers they began to repel them, however, Urushi didn't care. The money that he had made from his time as an assassin was more than enough to get by.

Since the three years of his retirement, his physique had degraded slightly. His stomach became more chubby, losing the abbs that he had trained ceaselessly. He now wore a green apron with white crocs and grew pants.

As he sat behind the counter, he slowly began to fall asleep. This was a poor habit that he had developed ever since retiring.

As he finally drifted into a deep haze he wondered, "When is the next time that I will get to share a drink with you, my friend?"

As he finally fell asleep, the sound of his door opening immediately jolted him awake. Despite his dulled skills, his senses were still as sharp as before.

As he looked up to see who barged into his store, he was met with a man breathing heavily, blood was pouring down his face staining his, white lab coat. In his arms, he gripped onto a grey metal case, with unreadible words carved into it.

Upon seeing him, Urushi instantly recognized the man as he shouted, "HASAHI?!?"

He quickly ran over to the man, holding onto him before he collapsed to the ground. He tried to carry him over to his store room, but that's when he noticed the bullet wounds that penetrated his back, staining his hands once again in blood.

He then shouted, "DON'T WORRY HASASHI, I STILL KNOW HOW TO WRAP WOUNDS!"

As he said that though, Hasashi grabbed tightly onto his friend, stopping him from moving. He then weakly said, "Put me down, I don't have long left."

Realising that whatever he could do was going to be useless, he put his friend down on the ground, while kneeling next to him, holding his left hand.

Hasashi then said weakly, "Please take this..."

With his remaining strength, he placed the rectangular metal box into Urushis hand. The words that were engraved on it said, "EDEN."

He then jokingly said, "The second that I finished that thing, Botan tried to kill me wouldn't you believe it? The only person that I could trust with this is you..."

"Why did you have to die for such a thing goddammit?? Why did this stupid tool have to get you killed?? I thought that you could save people with this?", Urushi shouted while crying.

Urushi then quickly opened the metal casing revealing a syringe, that contained a murky yellow substance. Before Urushi could inject the substance, into Hasashi, the injured man grabbed onto his hand stopping him from using the substance. He then weakly said, "This shouldn't be wasted on me... This is the only version of it in the whole world. I destroyed all the research data so that those bastards will never be able to recreate it."

"Botan the second... He wasn't the kindest man either wouldn't you believe? As people living in the Assassin Underworld, we both deserve eternal hell for all of the crimes and killings that we have committed. But even in this world of darkness... I believe that you're still the best for being able to escape it."

Urushi shouted at him, "THEN I WILL DESTROY IT. THEN NOBODY WOULD HAVE TO SUFFER AGAIN BECAUSE OF IT."

Hasashi then uttered, "Could you at least listen to my last words? I wouldn't be able to rest peacefully if that thing still remained in this world, however, I don't think I would be comfortable knowing that you destroyed it either. Please, promise me that you will give it to someone you think is worthy... Okay??"

As Urushi cried he shouted, "WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO FIND A GUY LIKE THAT?? YOU CAN'T DIE YET, YOU HAVE A WIFE DON'T YOU??"

As he continued to cry over him, Urushi did not realise that his friend was already dead. At the last second of his passing, the two had made a binding vow, preventing Urushi from destroying EDEN and promising to find a worthy user.

The Great Tower was surrounded by layers of buildings, and on a large traditional Japanese wall that stood at a tall 30 feet. Its entrance was a pair of mahogany doors that remained shut to outsiders. This was the base of the Daihatsu, and knocking on the door, was Urushi, who had not arrived as the store manager, but as the grim reaper. Like he once did in the past, he wore his usual black trenchcoat and tie, while armed with silver dagger, and pistol.

Realising that no one was going to open the door, for him he rested the palm of his hand against it before realising a sudden burst of cursed energy.

The two towering doors were suddenly ripped from their hinges causing them to fall and crush the people that tried to hold them back.

As the dust cleared a man radiating killing intent entered the Daihatsu territory.

Urushi was surprised but extremely bothered to see that, all the security and even normal workers were kneeling before him, creating a path that led all the way towards the great Japanese tower that stood before him.

He then asked one of the security guards that were kneeling, a question, "What is the meaning of this?"

He quickly responded, "The lord said to treat you with respect."

As he guided himself along the line of people he quickly reached the top floor.

As he entered he immediately asked the seated Botan, "Why shouldn't I kill you right now?"

Then with great confidence, he said, "If you killed me now then you would be killing two people as well."

As he snapped his fingers, Tsubaki, revealed herself from behind the giant golden chair, carrying a knife pointed at a little boy's throat. Much like Urushi he had grey hair and wore a yellow shirt with a monkey drawn on it. His face was completely blindfolded.

He cried out, "Dad? Where are you im scared."

He then shouted in rage, "Why do you have my son, you bastard!"

Botan then demanded from him, "Give us back EDEN, and we will hand your son back over to you peacefully."

Tsubaki then said angrily, "Hand him back over??? This man killed my husband! Im going to kill this brat as revenge!" While she said that, she began to poke the knife into Harutos neck causing it to slightly bleed.

As she did that Haruto shouted, "Stop that hurts!"

Urushi then shouted at her, "Stop this madness Tsubaki! Botan is lying to you, he already tried to kill Hasashi! By the time he got to my store, he was already dead!"

"Shut up, Shut up, Shut up! Botan told me that you stole, EDEN out of jealousy! EDEN was going to be his greatest work and you stole it from him, you bastard!", Tsubaki responded.

She then asked, "If you didn't steal it then where is EDEN now??"

Urushi remembering about the binding vow that was in place, told her, "I can't tell you I'm afraid."

Botan laughing in his chair shouted, "This is much more entertaining than what I had originally planned. Im glad that Taori isn't around to see all of this!"

Then suddenly Tsubaki thrusted the blade into Harutos throat causing the blood of the young child to spill everywhere.

As Urushi saw this he screamed out in a violent rage as tears spilled from his eyes. "I'LL KILL YOU."

The second he shouted, he bursted towards Botan at great speed while holding his dagger in one arm. As he tried to pierce his throat a strange invisible force began to hold him back before throwing him into the wall. That was when he remembered the binding vow that he had made with the previous Daihatsu leader, "No one shall murder a member of my bloodline."

"DAMMIT.", he shouted. Even in death, that old man was somehow getting in the way.

As he jumped back down onto his feet, Botan laughed while mocking him, "Why are you getting so upset?? He was adopted right?? You can always get another one can't you??"

Then in a rage, he leapt at Botan one more time, just for that same invisible force to throw him back into the wall. As all this Took place Taori who was forced to hide in her room, hid under the bed sheets thinking that the tower was under attack.

Botan then said, "They say that if you attempt to break a binding vow three times then on the third, you have to kill yourself. Do you want to find that out together?"

Then in a blind rage, he leapt towards Botan one more time. He didn't care if he died, the one last person that he cared about, his son was now dead. He didn't blame Tsubaki for killing him, as it was Botans fault for manipulating her as if it was all just a game.

Just before he could get close enough for the finishing kill, an invisible force stopped Urushi from getting any closer. This time it was the binding vow with, Hasashi that protected him from death. He still needed to pass EDEN on to a worthy successor before his body would let him die.

As he wept on the floor crying in defeat Botans laughs of victory filled the room. He had hoped that Urushi would end up trying to break the binding vow, and as a result kill himself, while also ending up with EDEN, however, he had found this change of events appealing in a cruel way.

Tsubaki then suddenly leapt towards, Urushi with her weapon in tow. Despite being a maid, she too was a trained assassin. Just before her blade could pierce Urushi, he suddenly grabbed her wrist before throwing her through one of the nearby pillars.

Urushi tried to let Tsubaki kill him, however the binding vow prevented him from doing so. The binding vow forced him to defend himself with all his might until his promise was fulfilled.

Realizing that he must bear this existence, for the rest of his hopeless life he screamed, "WHY MUST YOU PUNISH ME LIKE THIS GOD??"

Botan then shouted while still laughing, "Why should god punish you??? If God even existed he would have every right to punish you like this! How many people have you killed in your career as an assassin and you think that he would just let you walk away scot-free??"

Urushi then shouted at him, "SO HE MUST TAKE AWAY MY SON TOO?? HASASHI NEVER DID ANYTHING WRONG EITHER! HE WASN'T A MURDERER, HE WAS JUST AS MUCH OF A VICTIM."

Countering back Botan shouted, "This is why I hate people like you. You always see things at the surface level never really fully understanding what happens when you're not looking. Did he ever tell you what he did other than work on EDEN? He has probably killed just as much, if not even more people than you ya know."

Realizing the hopelessness of the situation Urushi for the first time since he trained to become an assassin ran away.

As he did Botan shouted, "GO ON. RUN AWAY. THE FORMER GOD OF ASSASSINS AND KILLINGS NOW WHINING LIKE A CHILD WHEN HIS ACTIONS FINALLY CATCH UP TO HIM. EVEN IF YOU LEAVE NOW WE WILL TORMENT YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!"

After this incident, Urushi spiralled into a well of depression. Every day he would try to hang himself or commit some form of suicide, however the binding vow that he kept with Hasashi prevented him from doing so. Tsubaki would also bear a forever grudge towards Urushi. Not only that but Urushis inability to find a worthy user for EDEN caused him to live his life in pain and misery, as Botans' men routinely came to destroy his store.

This is the miserable life that he would live up to today.
