It was raining so heavily, I felt like the entire universe was against me today. I totally flopped my interview, my mom called me and said she was coming over, I don't have transport fare back home and now, it's raining.
"My day definitely has to be the worst day ever".
Zara has been waiting for this interview for the past 1 month. But on the day of the interview, she, unfortunately, forgot her pass at home and was told she couldn't attend without it.
I was finally able to get back home but I was completely soaked with the rain.
"Uhh good gracious, I'm so cold".
I went into my room, took a warm shower, cleaned up my house a little bit because my mom was a clean freak, and then, decided to have a cup of coffee when I heard a knock on the door.
"That has to be mom".
I went to get the door and because the only person I was expecting was my mom, I didn't bother to check and just opened the door widely.
But after I had opened the door, I saw a young woman that was probably just a few years older than I am.
"Who..."
As soon as I asked that question I felt a resounding slap on my cheek. my cheek burnt so much that I had to hold it and rub it a little for the pain to subside. Then I looked back at the woman with my eyes showing both confusion, anger, and shock.
"Why would you come to my house and slap me just like that?"
"Just like that? Hah, you are definitely more shameless than I thought".
I had no idea what she meant and if she was not confusing me for someone else it means she was actually here for something. And it looked very serious.
Before I could say anything else, she beat me to it.
"Well, you can start by telling me what you are doing with my husband".
I tilted my head to the side as though that would help me understand her a little bit more.
"What husband?"
"The man you are dating you imbecile".
I smiled a little trying to clear the air.
"I apologize, but I'm not dating your husband. I am very much single".
The lady looked at me with an expression that almost looks like she was calling me stupid.
"Are you really that dumb or are you just really good at acting the part".
I didn't answer her question besides, it sounded like a question that didn't really need an answer.
The lady didn't speak anymore, instead, she brought out her phone and began pressing it. Soon enough, she showed me a picture and after I saw it, I was so shocked, I really tried hard not to laugh. Just then, I heard my mmom'svoice.
"What's going on here?"
The lady didn't even bother to look behind to see who was talking instead she just continued with the business she was here for.
"Stay away from my man if you don't want any more problems".
After saying what she had to, she walked out totally ignoring my mum. I felt humiliated, it was not a site I would have wanted my mom to see. He wasn't even my boyfriend which made it much worse.
"What is going on here?"
Zara's mum asked as she moved closer.
"It's nothing mom, come, let's go inside".
'Daniel, you better pray I don't see you anytime soon, if not, you are dead'.
Daniel is her friend but it seems his girlfriend claiming wife totally misunderstood.
My mum brought some side dishes and also helped me clean some invisible dirt. When she was satisfied with the way the house looked, she sat with me and began to say exactly what I thought she was here for.
"Zara, why don't you move back in with us? That way, I can easily set you up with one of my friends' sons".
I rolled my eyes at her statement, to be honest, I wasn't surprised but I knew if I did not come up with an excuse the conversation will go on and on until she decides to leave so I thought of something quickly.
"I have a boyfriend mom".
She looked super excited and surprised I almost laughed.
"Really? You really have a boyfriend?"
"Yep, I'll introduce him to you very soon".
Happily, my mum spent a little more time at my place and then I saw her off. On my way back upstairs, I got a call from my best friend Cassie.
"Hey, you called at the right time, I need a boyfriend".
"Huh? why would you suddenly need a boyfriend?"
"My mom came over and she started talking about independent living and me getting married blah blah blah. So I told her I'm going to introduce her to my boyfriend by the end of next month".
"Are you crazy, you've never dated anyone before. Where are you going to get a boyfriend from?"
"Can't you get me one? You know almost all the guys living in this city".
"I most definitely can not... wait a minute, I might know someone".
"Good, anyone will do".
"I'll be at your place soon".
I nodded as though she would actually see me and then ended the call.
Cassie has been my best friend since high school. Though I was from the middle class and she was from a very very wealthy class, that never defined our friendship.
As soon as Cassy entered my house, she couldn't stop talking.
"Yo...I think I might have gotten a guy that is too perfect for you".
I looked up to understand what exactly it was she was saying. She then passed me her phone so I could see his face. As soon as I saw him, I knew she was joking.
"You have got to be kidding me, where exactly am I supposed to meet a guy like him?"
"Well lucky for you, you have a friend as competent as me".
I didn't say anything and just waited for her to continue with her ridiculous statement.
"He is in one of the elite clubs my dad asked me to join and guess what? He is totally unapproachable".
"How does that help me in any way?"
"Get dressed, we are about to go clubbing".
"Are you insane? I'm definitely not going anywhere".
"Well then, I guess you are not tired of your mom's nagging".
"Fine, one hour".
I saw her smiling so sheepishly and I already knew that we were going to the club not because of me but because of her, but since I was jobless, I didn't really mind.
When we arrived at the club, it was obvious that Cassie was a regular so the guards allowed us in immediately. The place was so loud, so full, and so pushy. I was beginning to regret my decision. But since Cassie was loaded, we went upstairs to the VIP section.
After a while, Cassie tried to persuade me into dancing but I didn't want to so, she went to have fun by herself. It didn't take much time for my tall, black-haired, beautiful best friend to be surrounded by a bunch of guys.
I was getting bored of sitting still so I decided to go and get a glass of wine myself.
As soon as I stood up to go get it, I bumped right into someone's chest. It was obvious he was way taller than I was. I immediately got my stance back and apologized but just then, I looked at his face, and there he was.
The god-like image Cassie showed me when we were at home.
