Running Away Together

"Impossible! Why is this jerk dreaming of the company? I object!" growled Daren. He stood up, pointing at Roderick's face who was beside him.

Roderick swatted away Daren's hand that was still pointing at him. He was so angry and humiliated that he stood up. Roderick shouted back at Daren, "Watch your mouth! You're more of an asshole who likes to spend money to sleep with people's wives!"

"Asshole! Taste this!" exclaimed Daren. His right hand grabbed the lapel of Roderick's suit, while the left clenched into a fist.

"Enough!" shouted Jack angrily. He threw the wine glass at Daren and Roderick. It was inches away from hitting both of their heads.

Daren and Roderick were quite surprised, both of them were busy dodging so their anger was distracted. They immediately stopped arguing, though the flash of angry eyes never went out. While the women screamed, closing their eyes in disbelief at Jack's dangerous deeds.

"Brother, you've gone too far! What if that glass had hit one of them?" Ron stood up, approaching Jack with a disappointed face.

"I refused! Don't you remember what papa said when he was alive that the company would be managed by Vern?"

"Papa also said that only our family assets would be divided. Have you forgotten that Glory's founder is my husband? Don't you dare disturb him, Jack!" exclaimed Maini who couldn't take it anymore and didn't want to hear Jack's stupid statement.

"You're right, sister. I also clearly disagree with this sudden announcement without negotiation," Siena added with a hardened face. Even her smile was gone and she did not care about the precarious atmosphere that was about to ensue.

"Shut up all of you! I have no appetite!" exclaimed Jack as he slammed a napkin on the table. He pushed the chair hard, exiting the dining table towards the door.

"Jack, listen! We don't agree to anything!" shouted Ron angrily. He swore incoherently, venting by kicking the chair.

The Vlodostok family dinner was tense and it seemed that the family members were ambitious to get a lot of inheritance. Roderick was embarrassed and angry that he couldn't stay too long at the event. He turned around, walking out after Jack.

"Get lost, you bastard! Don't come back before you're removed from your position!" screeched Daren in annoyance. He was even more angrier when he couldn't chase and beat Roderick up, because Ron prevented him.

"Asshole! I haven't had such bad luck for a whole week! It must be because I met the damn bodyguard chief! You'll see, I'll kill him!" cursed Roderick. He took a wide step, slammed the door and wanted to take it out on Zay.

Meanwhile, Zay was still locked up in Vern's apartment. Both hands and feet were tied firmly together with Vern's dining chair. She stayed downcast with her tears drying, her body powerless in a chaotic mind.

"Hey, let me talk to him in private," Vern pleaded with the bald bodyguard. He entered his room that was used to keep Zay captive.

"Mr. Vern," The bodyguard bowed briefly to give a respectful greeting. He continued his conversation, "I'm sorry sir, I can't. Because I have orders to guard him 24 hours. Is it okay if I go out? I'm afraid of getting fired, Mr. Vern."

"Hey, don't worry, that won't happen. I'll take over your job for a while and I'll give you a big bonus later. Now get some rest!" Vern bargained for some time to talk to Zay. He also brought pizza and drinks.

"But sir ..."

"Shush, save your doubts! Just shut up and enjoy my offer!" Vern cut off the bald bodyguard's complaint. He didn't want to miss the opportunity to get to know Zay better.

"Yes, sir. Thank you," replied the bald bodyguard. Although he agreed, in his heart he was still reluctant to ignore Roderick's order.

As the bodyguard disappeared from behind the door, Vern squatted down in front of Zay while putting down the food. Vern was concerned about Zay's condition, a worried look on his face.

"Hey, burly woman. Are you okay?" asked Vern with a furrowed brow. He was watching Zay with interest and really hoped that Zay would open up to him.

Zay didn't react, she still kept her head down, silent and without any desire to engage Vern's concern. Zay was conscious, but the explosion of emotions between her heart and brain was indescribably sad.

"Don't die, burly woman. I really wanted to join you to plan revenge together," said Vern. He sighed heavily and took a seat right beside Zay.

"I'm ready to sacrifice everything in the success of this revenge. You want Roderick dead, right? I can help you."

Vern tried to persuade Zay, he who had been pessimistic earlier, now showed his enthusiasm.

It wasn't long before Zay faintly laughed, "Ha ha ha!"

Vern tilted his head, he was confused by Zay's response, still silent and hoping for an explanation of Zay's previous laughter.

"Do you dare put a gun to that jerk's head? Look at you stupid CEO, you can't fight back after being humiliated by Jack!" Zay quipped with the strength she had left. She was testing Vern's resolve after hearing Vern's fiery statement.

The light in Vern's eyes dimmed, he bowed his head after hearing the truth of Zay's statement. He was trying to fight the "Stupid CEO" stigma attached to him. Vern replied with his head held high, "I must dare to change my bad image! At least I still have the assets to support our revenge later. Do I deserve to be your man?"

Vern's question a few hours ago was almost similar to someone's angry statement. That person was Roderick, he had just arrived at Vern's apartment and was shocked to see the bodyguards lying on the floor.

"Damn it! What happened?" shouted Roderick running towards Vern's room. He swore angrily when he realized Zay wasn't in the room.

Roderick vented his anger by kicking the bodyguards. He was like a wild animal released from a cage, shouting, "Hey asshole, wake up! Where's that jerk?""

The bald bodyguard coughed, he tilted his body to take a deep breath. He had just woken up after being knocked unconscious by Zay. That made him an easy target for Roderick.

"Asshole! Tell me what's going on?" growled Roderick. He tugged on the bodyguard's tie not caring about his state. Not quite tempered enough, Roderick slapped the bald bodyguard who looked terrified, "Tell me quickly!"

"Mercy, sir. All of this has to do with Mr. Vern, please don't fire me," begged the bald bodyguard with a trembling body. He envisioned a lion ready to pounce on him.

"Are you still worthy of being my men? Argghh, you bastard! Why did you let those two escape?" Roderick continued to shout while shaking the bald bodyguard's body violently.

Roderick released his grip, swear words continuing to come out of his mouth. The image of Zay's grinning face in Roderick's mind drove him crazy, "Crazy bastard! Ever since I met you, I've always had bad luck. Asshole, I'll kill you!"
