{NOTE! ~THIS IS A STANDALONE SEQUEL OF 'HER BLOOD'} In a world where immortality reigns, life knows no end. However, immortals are divided into two categories: the strong and the weak. The weak can be easily killed, often possessing vulnerabilities that make them susceptible to the superior immortals. * Tragedy strikes when my father, a weak immortal with a fated weakness, is killed by a man I once revered. This man, who cannot be vanquished, has also passed down his trait to me through my mother. I hold both my mother and this man accountable for my father's demise and all the ensuing events. Even though my mother sent the man into hiding to atone for the pain caused, I am certain that he will return. Only this time, it will be different. He will come back to complete what he started, to seek vengeance and forcefully take back what belonged to him. ***
2 decades later...
Seated on an office chair, he swerved it round in order to face the wide glass wall. He rested an elbow on the arm of the chair and settled his chin on his knuckles.
His sharp ocean blue eyes watched the beautiful scenery of the city below him. He felt relaxed but not comfortable.
He had buried his head in work, making sure he didn't think much. It had been long since he visited his pack and it would be bad if he stayed away for another month. He was their leader and they needed him even though his late father's beta was handling things.
The telephone on his wide desk made of thick glass rang and he frowned slightly. He wondered who could be disturbing him now.
He slowly swerved the chair back to its normal position and stared at the telephone briefly before answering it.
"Sorry to disturb you sir, but a lady is here to see you...she said she needs to talk to you."
He sighed and thought for a while in silence, he knew who it was and he knew why she was here.
"Let her in," his answer was curt and a bit hard. He placed the phone back where it belonged before leaning back into the armchair.
Not long after, the door opened and an alluring woman clad in black fitted suit walked in. Instead of skirt, she chose to wear trouser and it suited her just fine with the black heels.
Her straight black hair fell to her shoulders, giving out a classic and deadly look. Especially with the red lipstick she wore.
She bowed slightly when she neared his desk before taking a seat opposite him. She sat on it and crossed her legs elegantly.
He watched her every move, not taking his eyes off her.
"Two weeks from now your cousin will have his coronation and it would be a pity if you weren't there to witness it in person....everyone will be there, Reginald."
She went straight to the point, she was not the type to beat around the bush. Her eyes held his, unwaveringly.
"And I heard your brother wants to see you. You should see him, you both need to bond." She further added.
Reginald silently listened to her speak. His eyes didn't leave hers, not even for a second.
"Good thing you're here Amelia, how about we go out for a little outing and talk more." It was not a question but a must. He stood up from the chair and so did Amelia without questioning him.
She picked up his brief case and headed for the door while he followed her behind, watching her every move and she was very much aware of it.
Two body guards standing at the entrance if his office door trailed behind them. They got inside an elevator and it took them all the way to the last floor.
When they got out of the elevator, his secretary stared at them with admiration. She couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy.
Her eyes followed them until they were out of the building.
Outside the building, the chauffeur opened the car door and Amelia got in first before Reginald while the bodyguards took another car.
"Spencer left this morning as scheduled, he should be there before night falls." Amelia explained while looking outside, through the car window. Reginald kept observing her with a slight furrow on his forehead.
"You're distant, Amelia."
When she heard what he said, she faced him with a small smile on her face.
"We're getting too attached Reginald and it would be best if we didn't." She answered and he narrowed his eyes at her.
"And what if we're too attached? Or do you want to call it quits?" He was blunt with his questions and he needed answers.
"We're not destined for each other and we'll never be, so it would be best if we kept to ourselves."
Reginald smirked and looked away briefly.
"I'm aware of that, it's not a new thing and I don't like that word."
Amelia knew how much he disliked that word, after all that was what caused a lot of problems. His mom was a good example for the word 'DESTINED.'
"Sooner or later my mate will come, no matter how much you try to run away from it you'll still get entangled in it, Reginald."
He didn't answer her, rather he kept staring at her. It would be a lie if he said he didn't have feelings for her, she was his perfect match.
He didn't want to end like his father, all because of his mate. Reginald wanted to be free to choose whosoever he wanted to be with. He still wanted to be sane and not be dragged down by a mate.
Amelia was understanding, energetic, brilliant, passionate and industrious. They had been together for a very long time, having each other's back. He made a promise to her that once her mate arrived then he would let go.
No one knew about their secret relationship, not even her parents. To top it all, she was his gamma. He didn't need a man when she had everything it took to be by his side.
Silence took over and neither of them spoke a word….until…
"Change of plans, let's go home." Reginald quickly changed his mind. It angered and disturbed him that Amelia called it quits.
*
When they got to his home, Reginald pulled Amelia in and locked the door behind them. He pinned her against the wall and kissed her, her eyes were a bit wide but she didn't stop him, rather she hooked her arms around his neck and brought him closer.
If this was going to be their last time together, so be it.
That afternoon they made the most of it, imprinting every moment they shared in their minds.
Reginald knew how much Amelia still cared and needed him. Even though she put on a fake facade he could still see through her eyes. It was also hurting her that they won't be together.
This was not the first time Amelia brought that same topic up about 'MATES'.
There were many times they ended up arguing about it but later they would still come back together.
Reginald knew that once she found her mate then everything would end for good, she would forget about him and move on easily...that was the annoying thing about 'mate', soulmate and the rest. Reginald despised it with passion. He wanted only Amelia.
When he was in his early teens, he was groomed by Connery and alpha Ernouf to become a good and brilliant leader.
Connery, who was his late father's beta, had a child with his mate Sonia who became close friends with him.
As they bonded, Connery's son, Spencer became his beta. He was always by his side.
At the same time, his distant aunt who went by the name Phoebe ended up becoming the mate of his late father's gamma who went by the name, Radolf.
They ended up having a daughter who was none other than his beloved Amelia. The three of them grew up together. Reginald and Amelia always fought and argued and it was Spencer who always tried to ease the tension.
Reginald took Spencer as his brother and so the only person aware of their relationship was none other than Spencer. And he was good at keeping it a secret.
Spencer was needed back home so Reginald had to let him go, after all he was not a baby to be guarded.
Everyone kept asking about him nonstop and it annoyed him, he was not in a hurry to meet any of them...especially his mother who he had not seen for years.
The pressure was too much so he had to part ways with Amelia, he had to send her back home to explain things to them and take his place until he arrived.
Everyone knew how he and his cousin Lewis were very close ever since they were little so it would be surprising if he didn't come personally to attend his coronation.
As a very busy business man, he had many meetings with other companies so he wouldn't be available for those two weeks, but he was sure he would make it on the day of Lewis' coronation.
After their hot moment together, Reginald personally dropped Amelia off at the airport the next day. He had persuaded her to take his private jet but she refused.
Inside the black limousine, they sat opposite each other, staring at each other.
"Have you met with my brother?"
Reginald was a bit curious on how his brother looked. Even though he acted all tough, he couldn't deny the fact that he missed his mother, after all she was the one that gave him life...
"You know I would've taken a picture of him if I had." She had a small smile on her face, she was glad he was finally accepting him.
Reginald nodded his head and checked his wrist watch.
"Guess it's time to part ways."
Reginald patted his side, signalling she come sit with him. She grinned widely and left her seat to sit beside him.
"I pray you don't find your mate soon."
Reginald cooly said and Amelia smirked and leaned in for a kiss. It was a light and simple kiss.
When she leaned back, she winked at him and he gave her his best smile.
"I pray you find your mate before returning home...don't come home alone," with that, she alighted and he let her go.
When she was finally out of sight, the smile on his lips dropped. The black thick divider blocking the driver from seeing what went on at the back slid open and the driver stared at Reginald through the rear-view mirror.
"You've grown so handsome boy, I can see some traits of your godfather in you..."
"Are you going to keep stalking me, Alastor?" Reginald questioned with a hard tone, he hated how the man always followed him about. Alastor was a subject to the man who killed Reginald's father.
"As long as you comply Reginald, it would be best if you did the right thing...there's this wise saying; THE SOONER, THE BETTER."
"Are you done talking? You have the nerve to keep disturbing my peace."
Alastor silently watched Reginald, he admired and cared for him. Funny enough, he had grown fond of him.
"Before he wakes up it would be best if you and your mother come back...or else.."
Alastor let his message end there as he swiftly left the body of the driver he possessed.
