Sage Eli has more lives than a cat. When one good deed leads her to her 7th death. She wakes up in a world that is unfamiliar. Purgatory is what she named it but everyone keeps telling her she is very much alive. Evil is spreading from the East, rumours of a celestial being and a hunt for a golden-eyed girl. Sage is forced to hide in the only safe place in the kingdom- The king's Harem. But the palace isn't all that it is made up to be. There's a murderer on the loose, deathly plots between mistresses for the king's heart and a king who is after hers.
She ran blindly, without direction.
The wind howled in fury. Everything seemed a blur. Sage braced against the wind, her lungs filled with a mix of damp forest air and rainwater. She skidded to a stop in the mud.
'Run' A voice demanded and She willingly obliged.
Straightening and picking up the pace. She dug her boots harder into the moist earth willing her legs to move faster.
' Run! '˙
'I am!' She mentally screamed back but the voice was persistent. She turned left, somersaulting over a fallen tree trunk and landing clumsily. Her right knee grazing the mud and her left hand digging into weeds and sand, trying to find balance.
She was weakening.
The poison from the arrow she had been shot with was spreading through her system fast, if it didn't kill her then the blood loss surely would.
'Run' The voice screamed in her head and She pushed harder.
She tried to take faster and longer leaps but her body was failing her. Her leg muscles ached from the pressure being applied to them. They were starting to slow down even when she wanted them to go faster. The pain from the arrow wound was excruciating, it felt like a thousand sewing needles being plunged in and pulled out all at the same time and her body felt like a house on fire with the flames trying to work their way out. She was hyperventilating trying to catch her breath and her throat burned from exhaustion. She tripped over the root of a tree and caught herself before she fell to the ground.
Sage huddled against a tree for support. Taking a deep breath, she felt her shoulder for the arrow stuck in her. It was made with something that felt like metal. That she couldn't break, so she had only one other option. She pulled it out without giving her brain time to complain about it. Tearing off part of her shirt she wrapped her shoulder to reduce the blood loss. She looked up at the sky and around her trying to gather her bearings, lightning snapped, slicing through the rain.
"Run faster!" A voice yelled over the thunder and this time it wasn't in her head she noticed, it was Wolf's. Sage's head snapped up, eyes trained on him. Her face was void of any emotion but with every surge of pain, she felt her brain mapped out the many different ways she could make him suffer before executing his murder.
'He best hope I die ' she thought but her thoughts were interrupted with a new surge of pain that brought her to her knees. She placed her right hand over her left shoulder and pressed harder trying to contain the bleeding as her vision blurred. The pain was consistent but her body was numb, the poison was in its full effect.
Paralysis
She fell face first, her left cheek greeting the muddy earth. She tried to blink out the raindrops from my eyes but as soon as her eyes closed, her eyelids stayed closed.
"Deities!" She heard him yell, his boots brought him closer to her. He screamed at her, ordering her to get up along with more profanities but Sage only heard mumbling, things were fading now and sudden darkness caved in. She was too weak; all her senses were failing her.
"Don't die" she commanded herself" don't die! Don't die! Don't..." were the last words she thought before she lost all consciousness.
