8.Basement

When Glenn got back to the front door of his house, he took a little sniff to make sure the black raven had been here.

He took out his key under a rock and opened the door to his house.

Things were placed behind the door, and he knew that the Black Raven probably didn't walk in and just put his things down and left straight away.

Doing things is really simple na ... With a sigh in his mind, Glenn grabbed his stuff and went inside.

He had to think of a way how to preserve the pork he got in the morning for a longer period of time, this world didn't have a refrigerator, so he decided to use the traditional method, which was to smoke the meat.

This world seems to have freezing magic, he has to learn about it sometime, so he doesn't have to worry about keeping food fresh ... Glenn's mind wandered, and he handled the things in the kitchen a little bit.

...

After experiencing eternal despair today, Leila couldn't imagine how she would face life without her mother, luckily, a kind gentleman saved her life.

"My child, you must be very grateful to that kind gentleman, in a world like this, people like him are few and far between." Leila's mother, Mrs. Deli, patted Leila's hand gently and said, "You're a girl who knows how to be kind, I'm sure of that."

"Okay mom, tomorrow I'll ask around to find out where the town of Bayeux is, and if I can, I'll call my friends to join me." Leila replied to her mother in a soft tone.

"That's good too, just be careful with your manners, your friends better not do anything to make a bad impression is all."

"Don't worry mom, they are all very polite people."

While conversing with her mother, Leila consciously recalled her impression of Glenn in her mind.

It was a slim young man, who seemed not much older than herself, with a different kind of temperament compared to the people around her, with a gaze that was always calm and self-effacing, and dressed as simply as herself, it was this kind of person that always made her unconsciously think back.

Always feel that there is something different about him, in the end what is it ... Just as Leila gradually wandered off, her mother's words pulled her thoughts back.

"We should probably think about moving ..."

Her mother's haggard face was weary.

"Moving again?" Leila was having some difficulty accepting this, she had lived here for a few years now, had made many friends, and neighbors, and moving would mean being separated from everything she knew.

They had moved twice before this, and each time they had to readjust to their surroundings, which was unfair to a fifteen year old girl.

"As you know, your father has found us again, he almost killed me today, and I don't know what would have happened if there hadn't been officers patrolling the neighborhood." Mrs. Derry took Leila's hand in both of hers with heartache in her eyes.

"I know mom ..." Leila looked at her mother's face whose remaining wounds had not yet disappeared, and looked at the heartache in the other's eyes for herself, it was clear that her mother was the one who had been hurt, and what was her own point of grievance?

...

Yesterday when he came back it was already very late, plus dealing with the kitchen, so Glenn slept until eleven o'clock in the morning before waking up.

He rubbed his sleepy eyes and opened the window of the second floor, and saw the old neighbor holding a Rottweiler pup coming back from the direction outside the town.

The old man was really into dogs! Glenn leaned over the window and greeted below, "Good neighbor! Where did you buy that dog, it looks pretty good!"

In the quiet streets of Bayeux town steeply heard such a loud voice, the old man was startled, he viciously looked towards the source of the voice, saw that it was Geren, his expression stiffened, then lightly grunted and ignored.

Glenn smiled, then retreated back into his home and began to wash up.

Suddenly remembering something, he whistled out the window, and instantly a huge beast rushed out of the fog in the distance, and quickly came to the side of Glenn's house.

The beast crouched down, in a stance of silence, waiting for orders, a focused light in its slightly glowing eyes.

"Go stand guard in the woods outside the town, and if you come across a girl coming through, protect her in the shadows." Glenn poked his head out and barked an order.

The beast's body seemed to right itself as if in a salute, making it seem as if if it would have spoken it would have popped out, Yea Sir.

Then it stormed out of town like the wind.

Today Glenn was going to remodel the furnishings of the house, especially the fireplace, which had to be changed with his hands since it was closed and could not smoke meat.

Glenn only began to smash open a corner of the masonry fireplace, sensitive ears, he immediately heard the sound coming from below something is not right.

He put down his tool hammer and gently tapped on the baseboard.

Knock knock ...

After some trial and error, he found where the noise was coming from, and although it was subtle, he did notice it.

It was empty down there? Glenn's face was a bit surprised, the original homeowner hadn't mentioned during the introduction that this house had a basement or something like that.

With curiosity, Glenn searched through the house, trying to find if there was an entrance to go down, he didn't want to destroy his floor as a last resort.

With intent, a trapdoor hidden under a large wooden cabinet in the utility room was found.

The door was covered in rusty chains, and it was clear that the perpetrator was very reluctant to allow anyone to get underneath.

This was no problem for Glenn, and with only a slight use of his werewolf strength he ripped through the chains and opened the trapdoor.

There were wooden stairs extending downward.

An odor of decay came from below and Glenn, who had a keen sense of smell, frowned, but he wasn't going to back down.

Finding a kerosene carrying lamp in the house, he lit it and gingerly descended the wooden stairs to the bottom of the live-board door.

When his feet hit the ground, Glenn took in the scene in the light.

The first thing he saw was an uncountable number of rats squeaking and squealing as they hid in the darkness, and then a couple of outdated bookshelves with books that had been chewed up and tattered to the point of disrepair.

A rotting wooden round table was lined with miscellaneous items, jars and bottles that seemed to be made of glass were scattered at the bottom of the table, all broken and leaking their contents.

Glenn lightly toured this basement, tsk-tsking under his breath, he never thought he would have such a place under his house.

Casually, he took a book from the shelf that was still in good condition and flipped it open.

"Hall Magic Root What's What's Second Alternative ... Seal of the Law ...," Glenn strained to read a paragraph, and finally the book closed, spitting in Chinese, " Shit! What bull horse written! I can't even read it!"

Putting the book back on the shelf, and rummaging through the clutter on the round table, all of which were drafts, containers and the like, nothing of note, he continued to explore the basement.

Since it wasn't a big place, it was quickly explored.

To Glenn's great disappointment, there was almost nothing of value here.

But just now he realized there was another door and pinned his hopes behind it.

Let's hope there are a few good things inside ... Standing in front of that door, Glenn took a deep breath.

The door was made of dark brown wood with an ancient pattern and runes carved all around the frame.

Right above it there was something that looked like a clock, except that this thing only had one hand, and the disk had five zones written in odd script that were evenly spaced across the disk.

The hand was now pointing to the area directly above it.

Turning the doorknob, with a click, the door slowly opened, what Glenn didn't notice was that the instant he opened the door, the text pointed to by the pointer of the disk above lit up slightly.
