Chapter 1Chapter 1: What? I'm the heir to a mafia Empire!

"What can I say... I mean, my day started like any other normal day I was used to. But I certainly wasn't expecting that!"

"Oh, that's right. My name is Sal, short for Salvator by the way. I'm eighteen and currently live in London. Unfortunately, my mother died a year ago in a car accident, leaving me all alone to fend for myself. Things sure have been tough, especially with having no other family. I mean, dropping out of school to get a job selling mobile phones wasn't exactly on the top of my bucket list, but sometimes life deals you a shitty hand."

-Beep-beep-beep-beep-

Sal slowly opened his eyes, rolling over to face his alarm clock, half contemplating throwing it across the room as his eyes adjusted to the light streaming through the blinds.

He slowly reached his hand to the stop button, taking a large breath before he sat up and stretched high into the air. The time was 06:30 am, earlier than Sal would have ever dreamed of waking himself up a year ago. However, that all changed when his mother got into an accident.

Sal reluctantly pulled the sheets off of his legs and climbed out of bed, doing his best to avoid the mess of dirty plates and clothes that had piled up on the floor.

This last year had been a pretty big adjustment for Sal, having lost his mother and turning eighteen, he was responsible for himself, meaning all of the cleaning and housework, not to mention the financial cost of his living arrangements and his mother's old debts that had sadly been past on to him.

Sal took a hard look at himself in the bathroom mirror, looking into his deep blue eyes before he ran his hand through his undercut black hair, flicking it to the side so it was out of the way.

"It's just another day," Sal said to himself, flashing a small smile in the mirror before he reached for his toothbrush.

Sal was quick to get ready, pulling on his black trousers and doing the buttons up on his white shirt. Skipping breakfast also helped him make up for the time it would take for him to get ready as he was already running late, however, that was more a fact of having no money rather than making a choice to skip food.

Sal took his apartment keys from the side and opened the door, leading to the outside of the large building of flats he currently lived in. Sal lived in Newham borough east London. It was a rough and dangerous place, filled with crime and unwanted attention.

Sal's mother had done her best to raise him well, trying to keep him away from crime and on a straight track. Something he had tried his best to keep to as a way to honour her memory. Still, living in a place like this didn't make that an easy thing to do.

"Hey look bruv, it's Sal!" A boy said, pointing at Sal as he walked down the street towards the bus stop.

"Yo, Sal my man!" Another of the boys shouted, getting up from his seat on a bench.

Sal turned to look at the group, seeing they all had hoodies on with their faces mostly covered, playing gangster as they harassed anyone who walked by.

"Sallll!" Another of them shouted, dusting off his shoulder, and laughing at the shirt he was wearing.

"Man, I can't believe you are still working Sal!" One of the boys said, placing his hand to his mouth.

Sal sighed already knowing where they were going with this little act of theirs.

"Look, Jonny. I'm already late as it is, how about we do this another time?" Sal said, trying to keep things friendly.

Jonny, who appeared to be the ring leader of the group suddenly changed his tone, quickly squaring up to Sal and getting in his face.

"Did you just tell me what to do bruv!" He said, trying to intimidate Sal.

"Come on Jonny, calm down. You know Sal has it rough these days." One of the other boys said, seeming to stick up for him a little.

Jonny turned around, suddenly changing his attitude again as if he was only playing this whole time.

"Come on man, I'm only messing with you bruv!" Jonny said as he took a step back, giving Sal some space.

Sal nodded, doing his best to keep his cool.

"See you around Jonny." He then said as he took his leave, feeling the eyes of all of them hot on his back as they watched him walk away.

"Oh, don't forget, Fat Tony is coming yours for his money, don't mess around with him, or you is a dead man G!" Jonny shouted, getting a laugh from all of the others.

Sal quickly got onto the bus, paying the fair and taking his seat as he looked out of the window, watching as Jonny and the others gave him the finger and shouted abuse at the driver.

Sal took another deep breath, trying to calm down as his anger was starting to get the better of him, remembering the words his mother used to say to him whenever he lost his temper.

"Breath Sal... Just breathe and let the flames go out..." Her voice said in his head, over and over again.

Sal remembered the last time he had lost it, resulting in him getting kicked out of school for putting five boys and one teacher in the hospital. His mother had been so angry at him that he thought she was going to put him in there with them, only somehow being able to get him off of going to a young offender's prison due to the nature of the injuries he had inflicted.

Instead, she had made him promise he would never lose his temper like that again, making him promise her on her life that no matter what he would control his anger.

Sal soon snapped out of his daydream, seeing that his stop was approaching. Standing up he hit the buzzer and waited for the driver to stop, hopping off the bus and walking the rest of the way to work.

However, unbeknown to him, two men dressed in suits, seemed to be hiding out in a parked car on the side of the road, watching him from a distance.

"Target sighted at 1 o clock." One of the men said, causing the other to look up from the newspaper he was reading.

"Hmm... That's him alright." The man said, pulling his sunglasses down ever so slightly so he could see better.

"Like clock work, Salvator Mogavero..."

"What fucking time do you call this Sal!" A small angry man shouted as Sal walked through the door to the phone shop, pointing at the clock on the wall that read 07:15.

"I'm sorry boss, it won't happen again," Sal said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

"Yeah, yeah, that's what you said last time!" The small man said as he marched over to Sal, looking up at him.

"I swear I'm gonna fire your ass if you are late one more time!" The small man said as he crossed his arms before calming down a little.

"Whatever just get your ass in gear! We have a ton of stock that came in early this morning, and the boxes need stripping and throwing out into the ally." The man said before he walked away to go and check on another member of staff.

Sal breathed a sigh of relief as his boss walked away, feeling as if he could finally relax.

"Man Sal, late again." A soft voice said from behind him, grabbing his attention.

Sal turned around, already knowing who it belonged to, seeing his childhood friend.

"Well, I try not to make a habit of it, Mia," Sal said, smiling at his friend.

Mia was a tall girl with blond hair that she kept tied up in a bun, with two loose bangs hanging over her face. She always wore just the right amount of make-up and had the same gold hoop earrings in as she always did.

"Gerrhhh..."

Mia looked at Sal with a questioning look on her face before she looked down at his stomach.

"Don't tell me you skipped breakfast again!" She suddenly said, almost scolding him like he was a child.

"If my mum finds out you aren't eating breakfast again, she's gonna flip!" She said placing a hand on her hip.

"It's ok Mia, I already eat breakfast, I'm just still a little hungry is all!" Sal said, flashing her a smile as he started to walk away.

"H-Hey where are you going!" Mia shouted at him, seeing that he was trying to make a quick escape from her.

"I've got boxes to strip!" He said as he quickly ran off, winking at her as he did, getting a smile from her.

"That boy..." She said as she crossed her arms over her chest before she turned around and got back to her own work.

Sal felt bad about lying to Mia, knowing that both she and her mother had helped to support him after his mother's death. Helping with cooking and cleaning, as well as helping to feed him when he couldn't afford it. Sal suddenly shuddered at the thought of what Mia's mum would do to him if she found out he wasn't eating properly again.

But he quickly discarded the thought, knowing no good would come of worrying about it now. With that Sal made a start on the large number of boxes that had been stacked up one after the other, each filled with different mobile phones that he would have to lay out and prepare to be placed into inventory.

"Ah man, this is going to take forever." He said as he wiped the sweat off of his forehead before he slicked his hair back so it was out of his eyes.

Time slowly passed for Sal as he tossed another empty cardboard box into the large bin that was in the alley to the back of the shop.

Sal had been so focused on trying to fit the damn thing in there that he had failed to notice the footsteps approaching him, almost jumping out of his skin when their owners spoke.

"Are you Salvator?" One of the men asked, getting Sal's attention.

"Wow man, what the hell!" Sal said as he calmed down, taking a good look at both of the men that were standing in front of him.

"Who the hell are these guys?" He said to himself as he took in their appearance.

Both men were very well dressed, each wearing a black Armani suit with what looked to be an expensive watch on their wrists.

Sal wasn't sure what was going on, but he didn't like the look of the situation, getting a bad feeling from these guys.

"Who's asking?" He said realising he had been quite a little too long.

"it's him, no mistaking it." One of the men said, keeping his hands in his pockets.

"I'm afraid you need to come with us, our boss would like to have a little chat with you."

Sal looked at the man as he spoke, seeing his size even through his suit.

"Man these guys look tough..." Sal thought, wondering how he was going to get out of this one.

"I don't know who your boss is, but I'm pretty sure you have got the wrong guy here..." Sal said, taking a small step backwards.

Both men were quick to pick up on Sal's intentions when one of them slowly lifted up his blazer to reveal a gun that was in a holster under his jacket.

"Let's not make any hasty decisions now lad." He said, slowly letting his jacket fall and covering his pistol.

Sal was seriously on edge now, knowing he didn't have a choice if they had guns.

"O-ok..." Sal said as he raised his hands, feeling like it was the sensible thing to do.

"Come on kid, this way." The smaller man said, giving a small nod of his head as he gestured for Sal to start moving.

Sal did as he was told, walking slowly towards them with his hands still raised, looking for a way he could somehow get out of this situation.

"Sorry about this kid." The larger man suddenly said as he quickly grabbed Sal, pulling him into a choke hold, using his massive arms to squeeze around his neck tight.

Sal had never felt strength like it, already feeling himself blacking out as he tried to struggle, only to resulted in wasted effort as he gave into the black spots that grew larger in his vision until everything eventually went black.

"Sorry kid, everything will make sense soon."

Those were the last words he heard before the darkness took him, leading him to drift into the emptiness of the void that seemed to last longer than it should have.

"ARGHH!" Sal yelled as he suddenly sat up, taking in a huge breath, feeling as if he had just rose from the dead.

"W-What the hell!" Sal shouted as he placed his hand on his neck, remembering being choked unconscious by the larger guy in the suit.

"Was that some kind of weird dream?" He thought, not having taken in his environment just yet.

"So, you are finally awake." A deep voice suddenly said, snapping Sal out of his confusion.

"Huh... W-where the hell am I?" Sal said as he took a good look around, noticing that he was inside what looked like a very, very expensive hotel room.

"What's going on!" He said, taking another look around, seeing that the room was full of large men wearing the same black suits that the two who had kidnapped him.

"Hold on... kidnapped... I've been kidnapped!" He suddenly thought, sending himself into a bit of a panic.

"Salvator!"

Sal was suddenly snapped out of his anxiety attack by the man sitting in front of him on a large Chesterfield armchair, the man sat with his legs crossed, holding himself upright as he commandeered total authority of everyone inside of the room.

Sal took a good look at him, seeing that he was in his mid-twenties, he had good-looking sharp features with long blue hair that was tied back in a ponytail, with a few loose strands brushed over his face. Sal looked into his eyes, seeing a hard and furious man, yet, for some reason, he felt calm.

"Good... looks like you have calmed down a little." The man said, flashing a smile.

"W-what's going on here?" Sal asked, slowly sitting up as he waited for a response.

"Yes... First off, allow me to apologize on behalf of my men. They were only following my orders to bring you here." He said, seeming generally sorry for how they had manhandled him.

"Now allow me to introduce myself. My name is Flavio... It is a pleasure to meet you, Salvator." He said, interlocking his fingers as he did, studying him with his purple eyes.

Sal gave him a confused expression.

"How do you know my name?" He asked, still not understanding what he was doing here.

"I know everything there is to know about you, Salvator..." Flavio said, smiling again before he reached forwards for his cup of tea that was on the table in front of him.

"You see, Sal... You don't mind if I call you Sal do you?" he asked before taking a sip of his tea.

"You see Sal. I am from what you would call the Mafia..." He said.

"And not just any mafia... I come representing the Mogavero family." Flavio said, placing his tea back onto the table.

"You see Sal... We have been following you for some time now, watching and learning everything about you for the last month."

Sal was shocked, having no idea that this had been going on for so long. Hell, he was shocked at all of it and didn't quite know how to respond.

"W... But what does the Mafia want with me?" He slowly asked.

Flavio leaned forwards, locking his fingers again as he smiled.

"In the time we have been following you, we also took that time to dig into your past... You see, there are things we needed to confirm before we brought you here." He said.

"I can see I am only confusing you more... So I guess I will cut straight to the chase." He suddenly said, noticing the look on Sal's face.

"Your full name is Salvator Mogavero of the Mogavero family. And you are the sole heir to the Mogavero empire... The strongest mafia family in the world!"
