8. To Redridge Mountain.

The battle has ended without any suspense.

As he said before, Esklios now is like going back to his peak again, and he also has a realization in the holy light, making him more powerful than he originally is. With his power, he can crush this group of grunts easily.

But the aftermath is the worst part of this.

"I'm so sorry, I'm sorry. It doesn't suppose to be like this, it's all my fault. If I kill that warlock faster then you guys must still be alive. I'm sorry, please forgive me." The white-haired boy cries with a heartbroken sound, hugging one of the soldier's corpses without caring that the blood will stain his body.

With his power now, as long as the person still breathing, he's sure that he could pull them back from the gate of hell. But he has already checked all of his comrades, including those in the castle. No one is still alive.

"Why, why let this happen, it's not fair at all." Someone said that boys should cry because it will show their weakness and childishness like a crybaby, but right now, standing alone among the corpse, he cried without any reservation.

This is like the biggest and cruelest joke to him. Eskalios put his life on the line, fighting warlock while he is at his weakest state, all of this is to keep this group of soldiers alive. Now, all the plan has been worked, all the enemies are killed, and his power has also increased by a huge leap, but he can't accomplish his biggest goals.

And also the look before the captain dies. He knew that even if they don't do this there is a great chance they are all going to die, and he also knows that it might be an illusion that his brain has created. But that look, the eyes that told Eskalios he failed them tormented him like cursing him with the most powerful spell. For someone who has the essence of responsible, there is nothing more painful than this.

"Enough. Enough of it. I don't want to think about it anymore." After kneeling there for a long time, he stood up before staggering to the castle. Now he is already at the limit of his body and mind, he has to take a rest and calm down before thinking about the next plan.

After the night with food, a warm bed, shower, and meditation to calm his turbulent mind, the mental quality of Eskalios is much better. At least he wasn't in the state of mental breakdown as before.

The first thing he did after his recovery is to explore the surrounding area. The very reason that leads to the death of all his comrades is to find the survivor, so it will be too unreasonable not to try to find them.

Unfortunately, he cannot find any trace of them. Looks like the people living here have already been transported to where the dark portal is located. The orcs that they encounter are coming for the next round of human catching.

After confirming that there are no other citizens here, Eskalios start to clean up the battlefield. He is all alone and cannot dig up a grave for them so he dragged all their bodies together and prepare to cremate them. As for the Grunts course that has been cut into a rag by him, he still let them as they are. The reason he did this is just not to let the corpse rotten and became lucky, not to prevent the plague. Why should he care about the Tribe?

Eskalios folded the corpse into the clothes that he found in the forest, and smear them with the oil before lighting them up. Looked at the big flame that devoured all of the soldier's bodies without blinking.

"You know, I thought that your death are so meaningless. We come here to help people, but we didn't even see their shadow, and now you all die without everyone remembering except me" He suddenly spoke to himself as if hoping his word could reach their souls.

"But then I remember a word of the commander of the survey corps. We all need to die one day no matter how noble our dreams are. The way to make their life have meaning is to remember them and carry on their dreams. You guys' dream is to save this country right? Then I will do it. I will fucking do it. I will become much, much stronger and save this kingdom. Even if it may still be fallen like in the game, I will try my best to change everything." Eskalios clenched his fists. His eyes burning with determination.

Eskalios in the past just look at everything as some kind of game like most of transmigator. But now it's different, although he did not have any affection for Stormwind, he will wholeheartedly side himself with this kingdom and tried to do everything to win the Tribe. Not as the third party that did to increase his power, but as a soldier who want to win the war, at least until the end of the Secon Dark portal War.

In fact, the death of these soldiers wasn't that worthless. To think that the death of dozen of normal people could pull future powerhouses like Eskalios to the side of the alliance and might make hundreds of thousands of people survive. This kind of exchange is not meaningless at all.

Eskalios packed his belongings and food and then depart from that castle after a small funeral has finished.

Before his travel, he also thinks about where he should go next. At first, he intends to go back to Westfall, but he changes his mind after looking at his current location.

Now he is in the eastern part of Duskwood. If travel to the right side for ten to twenty kilometers will be at Deadwind Pass, which could be said to be almost at the territory of the Tribe by now. This is also the reason why they encounter that group or orcs before.

And here's the thing, from his location, he has two choices, one is to go back to Westfall and another is to travel north to Redridge Mountain where the main battlefield is currently displayed.

This can be said to be a bold move, there is a very high chance that he will encounter another group of orcs patrolling near the war zone, but he still chose this way because of his goals.

At first, Eskalios intend to upgrade himself with patience and thinks that he will fight seriously in the Second War, but now want to save the Stormwind Kingdom so he needs to get stronger as fast as possible. And the fastest way is to be at a place that is full of creeps for farming (The Tribe). It might also work if he went back to Westfall and ask them to transfer him to the frontline but that is too long for him. So he intends to travel to the front line directly.

His idea sounds very impulsive but it turned out to be quite practical. His travel speed has increased many times when he is alone and it is harder to detect his presence. And even if he found the group of patrol, it's just a small group of Grunts or Raiders that did not exceed ten. With Eskalios' current power, he can destroy them without any problem.

Four days after his journey, he found the Nazferiti river and cross it, entering the area of Redridge Mountain.

Two days after he crossed the river, he encounter griffin riders patrolling in the air and using the holy light to attract the rider. After roughly explaining his story as a lone survivor, he can take a ride with the rider to Stormwind's main army camp in Redridge Mountain.

And that wasn't a correct choice, at least not one hundred percent correct.

"Ahh!! Slow down! Slow down! I'm going to fall off!" Eskalios screams while hugging the griffin rider's waist tightly.

At first, he didn't feel anything, but after the griffin start flying, he realized that riding on the griffin at full speed wasn't a pleasant experience at all. It feels like riding a roller coaster with nonstop swinging.

Especially with the fact that he did not have any safety belt or parachute making his heart almost jump out. While he is in the air, he is very curious that the griffin rider is a class that exists for a long time in Eastern kingdoms, and there should be many unlucky guys that fall to their death, why did no one think about inventing the seat belt.

Flying is the fastest means to travel if don't count the mage's teleportation, especially in the jungle and forest like this. After flying for about thirty minutes, they arrived at the military camp in Redridge Mountain.

While in the air, Eskalios can see a full view of this camp although he is about to throw up.

The fight at the Redridge Mountains is the biggest fight now. Almost all of the resources and manpower are allocated here, so this military camp is many times larger than the refugee camp in Westfall.

It is a camp that creates on a huge stone castle that is located near a steep tall mountain. There is a wooden wall made from lumber extended from the stone wall to the cliff, making this castle many times larger than it originally was.

Eskalios can see that the camp has roughly divided into many parts. There is a part that is full of the tents enough for hundreds of thousands of people to live in, a barn that surrounds by carts full of food and supplies enough for the soldier and their mounts, and a place that use to raise an animal such as war horse and griffin. Not to mention what could be inside the castle. It is another magnitude compared to the camp at Westfall.

Not far from this camp. Around two kilometers, the Redridge Mountains stretch out like a dragon is suddenly disappeared like being cut in the middle, becoming the pass between the Redridge Mountains area and the Elwynn forest. That is the place that the Stormwind soldier needs to protect at all costs.

The Redridge Pass also wasn't just a small road that run through the mountain. After fighting here for a long time, Anduin saw that this is the most important place that needs to protect so he use a huge amount of resources to build a fortress at the pass. It is a fortress that is mainly built from dirt and wood.

The two sides of the wall that are wide enough for five to six people to stand on are buried into the cliff, with no gap for the orc to squeeze through. On the wall, there are some parts that suddenly widen or add a watch tier in it for Warmachine such as ballista or catapult. Although he cannot see from here, he is sure that the wall must have many places that are damaged and being repaired due to the intensity of the fight.

Someone might be curious about where did the soldier get the material for the building. The forest within a radius of one kilometer that has been chopped off until the forest becomes a clear field can answer this.

The griffin landing on the wide and flat ground next to the griffin corral. Eskalios hurriedly dismount without waiting for the griffin to stand still and then let out a long breath trying to calm his heart and trembling legs.

"No…no more. I don't want to ride this thing anymore." He gulps down saliva, feeling the wildly beating heart, and is relieved that he did not have any symptoms about this, or else he might just die because of a heart attack. He promised that he will not ride anything that can fly again in this life, at least not until he learned how to ride a griffin.

And with this set of excitement, Eskalsios also cure his edgy personality that has from that castle fight too.

(Eskalios "Fuck! I'm not edgy!!")

I have read all your previous reviews and thank you for all your comments.

The reason why I wrote like Xuanhuan novels is mainly that I read Chinese novels. And I start writing in English not long ago so I may subconsciously copy those styles, I will try to fix my writing in the later chapter

(or maybe I should go and write eastern genre lol)
