You had made the decision to move out a long time ago.

Unfortunately, the implementation has always slipped backwards and it was never really worth moving away from your parents' house.

But now your mother's aunt had died and left behind a property she had bought decades ago, which your parents suggested you move into.

Her husband had long ago ended up in a psychiatric facility and then in a nursing home.

He had developed dementia over the years and what he said seemed traceable to his illness.

When he was admitted you were still very young and contact with your mother's aunt broke off almost completely.

After that it all went into oblivion, which means you never asked why he was admitted back then, what he said, what happened.

All you knew was that the two had bought the house and lived in it immediately.

And now, after your great-aunt died peacefully in her sleep, the house was yours.

You were uncomfortable at the thought.

You hardly knew your great aunt and now you would live in the house where she lived and died.

the friends you told about it joked that your great aunt's ghost might be haunting the house now.

The house was somewhat secluded, on the edge of a wooded area behind the town and was built in the victorian-era.

Though you didn't have it far from the house to the city, only needing to drive straight ahead for about 10 minutes by car.

The nursing home where your great uncle was was also in town and you were considering visiting him.

Because when your great aunt was gone there was no one to visit him and after all you were part of the family and you would live in his house.

Due to his severe dementia, he had not been assessed as competent and your great-aunt's will had power of attorney.

As you pulled up to the house it felt sad and lifeless.

You had driven up to a house many times that you knew no one would be in, but it had never felt the way it did now.

Like someone's gone and nobody's ever coming back.

The white paint on the house had turned slightly gray and yellowish over time, but the house still caught the eye from a distance.

You got out of the car and looked behind you, the forest stretched out behind you and as you walked around your car from behind to open the trunk, the slightly sandy ground you were just driving on made a noise.

You didn't take much with you, but you didn't need it and you didn't have much anyway.

Most of the things that were in the house with your great-aunt were still there now, so you didn't have to worry about the furnishings.

You spent very little to make the house your home, some decorations here and there but not really anything else.

Your hand was shaking a bit when you tried to unlock the front door, you were excited.

It would be the beginning of the rest of your own life and that came only once.
