Chapter 1

"Your Highness, it is time to get up. We will be arriving soon," a voice called from outside the carriage

Wyne's eyes shook and the ears on his head twitched for a moment before opening up completely. He looked around and saw that he was not in his bedroom or the garden or the library or at court.

'Oh, yeah. I'm going to the Imperial Magic Academy,' Wyne yawned when he remembered what his family had forced him to do.

Out of all of his siblings, he had the highest magical power out of all of them. In fact, he had the most magical power out of anyone in the Naliah Kingdom in the past few hundred years. And because of that, he was forced to attend the academy of the Soluna Empire of whom they were a vavasor.

'My kingdom has always been the sword of the empire. They are worrying about nothing.'

Wyne had accepted that he had to attend long ago but the reason behind it was still puzzling. Beastmen were warriors, not conquerors. The only reason his ancestor had accepted being a vavasor of the Soluna Empire was because she wanted to have an area for the Beastmen to settle down and raise their children in more stable environments instead of their usual nomadic lifestyles. But they never had any intention to expand. The only vassals that they had ever taken in were smaller kingdoms around them that requested their protection. In fact, the Naliah Kingdom was more like a giant mercenary organization than a typical kingdom.

But that still did not stop the Imperial Family from worrying. So once every 50 years or so, the Naliah Kingdom would send one of their princes or princesses to the Imperial Academy to study while surrounded by nobles of the empire.

And it was originally going to be Wyne's older brother or sister but once they found out about his magical power, the Imperial Family specifically requested for Wyne to be the one to attend. And without a real reason to refuse them or care about it, Wyne's parents agreed without a second thought.

"Your Highness. We have arrived," the same voice called out again

Wyne got off of the carriage to see that they were standing before a massive silver gate. Behind it were several buildings that blocked the view of what was around them but Wyne could see a massive mountain behind them as well as a little bit of a forest.

And in front of the gates were countless carriages that were stacked with luggage along with many younger and older people. Most of these people were servants while the rest were the future students of the academy and Wayne's classmates.

While Wyne was looking at the academy and everyone else, he was also receiving a large number of looks. But it was no surprise why.

Beastmen were very reclusive, rarely venturing outside of the Naliah Kingdom except for mercenary work. And since the Soluna Empire was so powerful, they rarely needed to call for outsiders or even their vassals to assist them. So this was the first time many of the students and their servants had seen a Beastman, let alone 3 of them.

Most of their attention was on Wyne and Mil, the only retainer Wyne had brought with him to the academy.

Mil was a bunny Beastman with two large, white ears atop her head as well as a small cotton tail that stuck out from her maid uniform. Her raven hair contrasted her white ears, making both stand out even more. She was petite but had a curvy body that looked unusual but very pleasant because of its rarity. Her beautiful looks also helped her attract a large amount of attention.

Wyne on the other hand was a large teen with tanned skin. He was already standing at 6'0" while only being 15 years old and was sure to grow even taller. He was a fox Beastman with ash-grey hair and a long fluffy tail that had a white tip. His most distinguishing feature was his grey eyes which drew people in.

Both had athletic bodies with a few scars on them from their years of training and hunting but that only added to their charms even more. It also helped that both were considered two of the top 3 most attractive Beastman types, only missing a tiger Beastman to complete the group.

"Milly, be sure to watch over his Highness and properly take care of him. This is your responsibility," Arnold, the coach driver and member of the royal knights told Mil again who just rolled her eyes mentally.

"I know, I know. You worry too much, Father. His Highness is in safe hands," Mil swore again to her father.

The man nodded and was about to give Wyne some words of advice but he saw that the young man had already walked away and was talking to one of the school attendants at the gates. He then turned to tell Mil to hurry up and catch up with him but he saw that his daughter had also left already.

'Both of those brats! Can't even say goodbye to an old man,' Arnold thought with a huff before getting back on his carriage and turning it around to head back to the kingdom to report the safe arrival of the two.

At the gate, Mil had caught up to Wyne who was already flirting with one of the attendants, trying to find a way to skip the huge line. She could tell by the blush on the woman's face that she had already fallen for Wayne's attack and had her hopes lifted but the woman's words made her face fall flat.

"I-I wish I could, Your Highness. But the academy is strict in this part. We aren't allowed to help anyone skip the line," the attendant said. When she saw the disappointed looks on both of their faces, she felt frazzled and began waving her hands in front of her. "But I can tell you which of the assistant professors moves the fastest. That way, you can wait for the least amount of time."

"Really? That would be wonderful," Wyne's eyes sparkled, causing the attendant's pink face to turn completely red.

"Hmm. Follow me," she told them before leading them to the 3rd line from the right. She left soon after since she had to help other students but not without being thanked by the two.

This line looked to be the same length as the others but after waiting in it a few minutes, Wyne knew that the girl hadn't lied to them. For every person that moved up a place in one of the other lines, they went up 3 places.

"Always best to get along with the common people. They always know the secrets," Mil whispered to Wayne, glad that he remembered the lesson taught to both of them.

"Hmm. By the way, are you planning to wear that silly outfit the entire time until we get our uniforms?" Wyne asked, not sure why Mil decided to dress as a maid. She was the daughter of the Duchess and Wayne's childhood friend. Her mother and his had fought together in countless battles so it was natural that their children would be friends as well

"Cause I look cute in it," she said matter-of-factly. "Besides, unless I get accepted into the School of Black Magic, this will be the last time I can wear my favorite color on school grounds."

Wyne shrugged his shoulders, not sure how to deal with his friend's weirdness. They waited in line for another 30 minutes before it was their turn.
