Entangled Destinies

She is a practical realist, a lover of science, and a nonbeliever in destiny and magic. He is a demigod King who rules a mythical kingdom with supernatural powers. Evie is a cold and laid-back aircraft mechanic who lives in the urban city, trying to live a mediocre life, just to escape her traumatic past. On the other hand, King Adamos is a conservative perfectionist ruler who maintained the magical Kingdom of Edin in peace and solitude for centuries. What happens when both of their lives get entangled by a playful game of destiny? Would they allow themselves to be entangled in its hands and be transformed by each other’s differences? Or would they try to get out of its clutches and go back to their own fabricated world? ******* Excerpts: His Majesty’s Chamber’s colossal ceiling, which was previously just a bland shade of beige and gray, suddenly transformed into a multi-chromatic one. It appeared like a display of dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains, rays, spirals, and flickers covering the entire sky. The magnificent picture would mesmerize anyone who loves magic and beauty combined into one spectacular scenery. But not Evie. Her suspicious eyes narrowed as she searched for gears in the ceiling edges. ‘The King’s Chamber must be like a convertible car. And that kaleidoscopic display must be the actual color of the night sky here in Edin,’ she analyzed as she scrutinized the structure. She knew how convertible cars work. They have gears with brackets with teeth connected to the primary structure of the roof of the cars. But she could not see any forms of gears. Still, she didn’t believe that this King had powers and that he was showing them off right now. “I know it’s a trick. You cannot fool me.” Evie’s unfazed eyes now darted at King Adamos. He was currently on top of her, ready to take her as was proper for their honeymoon. And they were both lying down on his bed. With his raven locks flowing down his strikingly handsome face and his naked taut chest, Evie couldn’t help but clamp her lips together. If not, they might betray her and speak out her thoughts that for her, he was more beautiful than the display above them. She thought he would get mad at her for sneering at his effort to impress her. But to Evie’s bewilderment, a corner of the King’s moist wet lips curled up. Then he drew near her and whispered in a hoarse and rugged voice, “I don’t care what you think. You are mine tonight, Evie.” ******* Note: Everything written here is purely figments of my imagination. You may find errors, as English is not my primary language. A Great Partnership

ECHID

He has seen King Adamos use his power. But not for this.

He seemed to be recreating the hole that the two female humans were talking about as he gathered strength from the winds in the four regions of Edin.

Echid couldn't help but feel in awe of how powerful he is, and how he could harness it without destroying Edin in the process.

As he watched King Adamos, he also thought about what Lady Joyce said.

Indeed, there have been no portals in the history of Edin.

Only the Emperor can travel in the different realms of the Elysian Empire freely. And he said during the meeting that he has not been to Singapore, where the two female humans reside.

'Have a portal really opened up? But why? And why did it bring the two women here, if not one of them is Hyouka?' he thought as he gazed at the two stranded women.

"Oh my gosh, are you Thor in the flesh?" Lady Joyce giggled through her flying red locks.

Lady Evie was not saying anything but her facial expression seemed to tell that she was dubious of what the King was doing. She was glancing around as if she was looking where the winds were coming from.

'Does that mean that creatures from another realm could be here, too?' Echid's lips lifted into a wide grin.

"Oh, Great King! How great is your awesome power! Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western winds abide by the King's rule!" he orated with his hands waving in the air.

One of Sefro's eyebrows shot up as he glanced at him for a fraction of a second before he leaned forward to the King, "I just want to remind you, your Majesty, that creating portals is forbidden in Edin."

"Of course, it would be forbidden because it's not possible, right? How could the King make that? Unless - he's a god or something!" Lady Joyce butted in, making Lady Evie nod her head.

Echid couldn't help but press his lips to control his laughter. 'These humans don't even know that King Adamos is a son of a god! How exciting!'

"I am not creating a portal, but a hole, just as Lady Evie describes it," King Adamos answered them without casting them a glance. "Am I doing it right, my lady?"

All of their attention turned towards Lady Evie, whose eyes were now fixed on the hole being formed in the sky.

"It - seemed - like - it," she answered.

Then she quickly glanced at them, "Do you have any piece of metal with you?"

"Is this enough?" Lady Joyce asked with a smile after pulling a pin from her hair.

But Lady Evie shook her head. "I need something bigger. Is that a real sword, your grace?"

She was pointing at Sefro's sheath, making Sefro's eyes widen. His hand flew immediately to its handle while one of his feet stepped backward in a defensive position, "I'm afraid it is not possible, my lady."

Echid clamped his lips to prevent a grin from rising, 'I wonder if the two ladies are assassins from another world. And they're now taking advantage of the situation of the King. I could just transform into my wolf form right now and rip these two into pieces. But let me see. Let me see -' His claws started to shoot out of his fingers.

"Don't worry. Evie's not going to hurt anyone," Lady Joyce immediately waved her hands in the air with a burst of nervous laughter. "Am I right, Lady Evie?"

Lady Evie nodded her head and said, "The hole that we come from seemed to be like a huge magnetic field which pulled our plane inside it. We will know if the King is making the same force if it would attract metals in it. But that's just a 60% probability."

'I see,' Echid seemed to understand so his claws retracted back.

But Sefro could not be swayed. He was not moving at all, even glaring at Lady Evie.

While all that was going on, King Adamos gave a command which bewildered them, "Lady Evie will not harm me. But you can throw the sword yourself, Sefro. Fly near the hole with Lady Evie."

That first sentence struck Echid, making him gaze at the King intently. 'How could he have known immediately?'

The King trusts only a limited number of people. Echid was fortunate to be one of them. But they have to gain his trust first for centuries.

And Lady Evie has not even been here for a week! Is that because they were destined to trust each other?

With the King's instruction, Sefro immediately stepped forward and bowed, before he went to his Ornis.

He offered his hand to Lady Evie to assist her in climbing his Ornis. But Lady Evie didn't seem to see his hand as she climbed his Ornis by herself, skillfully.

Echid's jaw couldn't help but drop. He has not seen a woman move like her.

"Go, go, go Evie and your Grace! You can do it!" Lady Joyce waved her fist in the air.

Everyone held their breaths as Sefro and Lady Evie neared the hole. At Lady Evie's timing, Sefro threw his sword to the hole. It seemed like the world stopped as they anticipated what would happen to the sword.

To their dismay, it just fell down and landed on the ground.

The hole slowly vanishes as the strength of the King diminished.

"Uh-oh," Echid's lips went downturned exaggeratedly.

"Could it be that this is not the exact location?" Sefro asked Lady Evie as soon as they landed back, which made her nod her head.

"It is probable. If I landed at Valethea and Joyce at Athesus, it could be between the two islands," Lady Evie pondered as her eyes went to the island a little farther than theirs.

"Then what are we waiting for? Sefro, fly up with us. Lady Evie, take the reins," King Adamos ordered Lady Evie, to which she responded with a crisp nod and climbed Acyon like she climbed Sefron's Ornis.

Echid's eyes widened in horror as he gazed at Lady Evie climbing up Acyon, 'No - one - has - never - ridden - Acyon - aside - from - the - King.'

"Wait!" he couldn't help but blurt out. 'Is the King planning on killing Lady Evie so she couldn't be the Queen?'

Everyone knows how irritated he is whenever a companion in rulership is being mentioned.

Acyon has killed a lot of Edinians just by attempting to ride him in the sky.

"What about?" King Adamos questioned Echid. He seemed to be readying himself to climb Acyon as well.

"Uh, nothing, your Majesty," Echid grinned uncomfortably as he scratched his head.

'If the King would be riding Acyon, then Lady Evie would be safe. He must be planning on creating the hole up in the sky and he cannot do it while controlling Acyon at the same time. But why Lady Evie? He could have ridden another Ornis instead. Lady Evie cannot -'

Just as  he was pondering on the King's decision, Lady Evie lifted the reins, giving Acyon the signal to fly.

Echid's eyes blinked rapidly at the sight. Lady Evie was flying Acyon and Acyon was obeying her!

He watched carefully how Lady Evie flew Acyon to their desired destination by the guidance of King Adamos while he was creating the hole at the same time.

"What a splendid partnership!" Echid's face glowed with pride.

His pupils dilated  as he recalled the Emperor's instruction. 'The Emperor is going to have a very delicious breakfast tomorrow!' Echid's hands clapped together.
