Refined Revenant
The last bastions of humanity were the last places where society was still thriving, laws still upheld, currencies still being used. The most celebrated one was in the North and there have been many waiting for ages to get in. It was such that the line into the Northern Base spanned miles into the horizon.
Skyler was just one of the few who was part of that very line. After her journey with The Airheads, betrayal from other humans and nearly becoming zombie food, she was ecstatic that all she had to do now was wait until she got to the front of the line.
Unfortunately for her, getting to the front of the line was the start of all her worries.

A deep, alluring voice broke the stifled silence,"Hello Ms.?"
"Sinclair, Skyler Sinclair," Damn, she’s always wanted to do that! Seeing enough people trying to cooly say their name that way always made her want to, but she was always too embarrassed at the thought to do so. Now though, it's the Apocalypse, things like pride are like what paper money is, useless, and those greedy enough to keep it die not so happy deaths.
His voice penetrated the air and lingered in the way Skyler was sure only villains in movies and shows could make it do so, "Ms. Sinclair," He sent her a completely baleful stare as if it was her fault their machine wasn't working. She’s innocent buddy! All she did was walk under the thing and let it scan her. "We would like to request you stay in the Northern Base until the tests are done."
Now, she didn’t know about you guys but that did not sound like he was asking. Alright, Mr. Villain, let's see how you negotiate with her. "And how long will that take?"
"Five months"
Skyler felt saliva go down the wrong hole as she nearly hacked out her lungs.
