Sinopse

Conventional wisdom suggests that the Afghan republic fell because societal values were incompatible with democracy and the country was simply ungovernable. This article traces the state’s collapse to the highly centralized political institutions imposed after the 2001 U.S. invasion. Instead of offering citizens an opportunity to oversee their government in a meaningful way, Kabul-centric institutions—holdovers from the country’s authoritarian past—undermined citizen trust in government. Flooded with vast amounts of foreign aid, the post-2001 system fostered corruption. After twenty years, Afghans were unwilling to fight for a distant government that did not treat them with dignity. The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan ended on 15 August 2021. That afternoon, President Ashraf Ghani fled the capital city by helicopter to neighboring Uzbekistan. Just days earlier, he had sworn never to leave and said that he would die before abandoning his people. With Ghani gone, the Taliban offensive, which had captured dozens of provincial capitals in the preceding weeks, easily entered Kabul. Within hours, the insurgents sat comfortably at Ghani’s desk. Why did the Afghan republic collapse so completely and so quickly, spurring tens of thousands of desperate people to run to the Kabul airport in hopes of escaping the Taliban’s harsh rule and potential retribution? Conventional wisdom says that the U.S.-backed republic fell because the country’s government and society were hopelessly corrupt, and its values were incompatible with democracy. In other words, Afghanistan was ungovernable and would always be a lost cause for the outside world—a graveyard of empires.

The emperor of Shadows (dropped)

Hello ladies and gentlemen This is my first time writing a novel so if it's below 100 chapter then I am sorry Here is synopsis - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a world scarred by the cataclysmic arrival of otherworldly monsters, humanity's survival hangs by a thread. Among the remnants of a once-thriving civilization, a seemingly ordinary young man named Reynold Scotus, with a latent affinity for darkness, has endured a life marked by torment and despair. Born into a world forever altered by the arrival of these monstrous beings, Reynold grows up as a target for bullies who taunt him for his unique but misunderstood powers. But his life takes a tragic turn when an accident claims the lives of his beloved mother, Grace, and his younger sister, Sera, who suffers from mana bottleneck dysfunction—a condition rendering her unable to harness mana, a precious resource in this harsh new world. As Reynold grapples with the loss of his family, he encounters the enigmatic hero known as the Fire Knight, who holds the power of fire manipulation. However, this hero's facade of righteousness crumbles when he reveals his true nature, callously dismissing Reynold's family's tragic fate as a consequence of his own recklessness. Left battered and broken, Reynold undergoes a transformation from a powerless and defeated youth into a formidable force known as "The Emperor of Shadows." Driven by an unquenchable thirst for vengeance against the corrupt hero and those like him, Reynold embarks on a perilous journey to confront the darkness that has consumed his world. As Reynold's power grows, he navigates treacherous dungeons, faces deadly adversaries, and unearths the secrets of his own abilities. With each step, he edges closer to the heart of the corruption that plagues his world, battling not only the monsters that threaten humanity but also the darkness that dwells within himself. "The Emperor of Shadows" is a tale of redemption, vengeance, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. As Reynold Scotus becomes a symbol of hope and justice in a world teetering on the brink of annihilation, he will confront the most formidable adversary of all—the shadows that lie within. Will Reynold's quest for vengeance lead him to the redemption he seeks, or will he succumb to the very darkness he battles against? In a world where heroes have fallen and shadows loom large, the fate of humanity rests in the hands of "The Emperor of Shadows."

Belonging To The Darkness

*Arranged marriage*Enemies to lovers*Obsessed anti-Hero* “I fucking hate you!” She breathed out the words, slowly and steadily, into his face. Her garlic smelling breath hitting him right in the face, making his face twitch and break posture. “You,” he turned his head away to breathe away from her garlic scented bread, only for her to open her mouth and blow into his direction. “Fucking brat. Did your parents teach you nothing?“ “Pedophile!” She accused to his face. “Did your parents teach you to marry little girls?” Adrian scoffed. “it’s your father who is trying to marry you off. Take it up with him.” She tried to open her mouth, by the looks of it just blow her garlicky breath on him again. Adrian grabbed her jaw, squeezing her cheeks together, he made her shut her mouth. “Listen to me carefully, Brat,” he whispered, bringing his face closer to hers, “You better hope I don’t say yes to this proposal of your father. Because if I do, I will be shipping your ass off to a behaviour correction facility as the first thing.” Ignoring the sneer on her lips, Adrian patted her cheek forcefully, just for fun, before turning around and leaving her alone in the corner. “It’s on,” she vowed, “I’ll fucking set you on fire.” ***** Joyce O’Sullivan, 19 years old, a perfect age to get married and settled according to her family members, according to the church they went to, and according to the whole society that she did not give a damn about. Adrian Murphy was a name she had heard in her household many times but only by their mouths of. Those who dealt with business. When her father is finally able to score a meeting with the so called God of Europe, at least for the land to live in, she could not care any less only to find out that his father was making a proposal to him. Proposal of marriage. A proposal of marriage of her and him. The best part about it? He got to decide. And she certainly won’t let him decide in her favour. And why? Because it would get them power and power was everything. **** Dark romance you have been warned. Can be read as a standalone .
